I remember seeing a funny local news story where they asked 'people on the street' what these things were. Needless to say, few people had any idea . . . I've never used them myself. I vote they'll go the way of the cue-cat of the early internet days . . .

they're nifty and i can see a couple useful applications for them, but their faddish-ness will die out quickly. i saw one on a papa johns pizza box that takes you to a short youtube video where pap john himself tells you how great the pizza you're eating is. what kind of rube would think that's awesome?

same with advertisements. if i'm looking at an ad for miller lite, so what's the point of scanning the code? to learn more about miller lite?

It's stupid. You expect consumers to take five extra steps to learn "Coke is the Real Thing." This is the Pet Rock of Social Media.

Remember "A Christmas Story"? This is the 21st Century version of the decoder ring that eventually just tells you to "Always Drink Your Ovaltine!".

I also see lots of "Rick Rolls" associated with this.

I think qr codes are a great marketing device for anyone. But too bad they aren't gaining much traction
