Chicken WIngs Are a RIPOFF
Posted by: WingNut ()

I can eat chicken every day of the week, it is that good. Fried, BBQ,Curry, Chicken Parm, baked, I like it all, even the livers.

Why the hell does KFC,Popeyes and the supermarkets that serve prepared chicken insist on calling a wing a "piece'? It is a piece of the breast, not a piece to itself. FOr decades, I've been buying these so-called 8-piece packages and really am getting only 6 pieces- 2 legs, 2 thighs, 2 breasts (w/ wings)

Really we could make a pretty decent argument that a leg quarter and a breast/wing are pieces to themselves, but I'd settle for the compromise of having the wing included.

A breast and wing is one piece, maybe it won't change the price, but all pieces of chicken are not created equally.

BTW I prefer legs.thighs.

Chicken wings are a big profit-maker. It's the junk part of the chicken, and they used to be thrown out until 'buffalo wings' became popular. What was once discarded now sells for 3 or 4 bucks a pound- most of which is just skin and bones. It's like a bite of meat for thirty or forty cents; maybe double that if you're at a restaurant.

My entire family does; we do not understand why white meat is in demand (thus more costly, typically, if you ask for "all white meat").

The counter folks at the local Popeye's eyes light up when we ask for "All dark meat".

I'm clucking my disapproval of wings being considered a separate piece....

Bar owners I know agree, wings make money, even when sold at happy hour prices and get people drinking to was the hot down.

Skin bones and tendons, almost like eating crabs it is so labor intensive.

I wish the fried joints woould go the route of the Spanish pollo places and sell quarters, even if they are harder to fry. I think it's a hose to call a wing a piece when you get a bucket or a fmaily pack.

A friend ordered wings at lunch yesterday. He got like 10 wings, and I think the price was 8 or 9 bucks. He said they were good, but it's sorta crazy that a small amount of food like that can be so high-priced. You can probably pick up 2 pounds of chicken breasts at Safeway for that amount and get several meals out of it. Wings are money makers.

I like when the 400 pound behemoth says "They're out of chicken? How can I feed my family"? She's sure no Phylisha Rashad.
It would be better for that slobs family if the WORLD ran out of fried chicken.
That video made every black person look like an ignorant , teeth pickin fried chicken addict.
Where was Theo Huxtable when you need him?
All that was missing was the watermelon.

Chicken wings remind me of crab legs. A lot of work for a little bit of meat. You pay an arm, a leg, and your left nut for a bushel and you probably burn more calories trying to extract those precious few nuggets of meat than what you get out of them. No wonder people can sit and eat crabs for hours on end - you never get full.

I fucking hate crab legs. Give me a goddamn crab cake sandwich. I would rather pay $10 for someone else to do the work than $30 for a bunch of fucking shells I have to crack myself.

Crabcakes rock, and are the only kind of crabs I'll eat at the shore,

On the other hand, lobster and Alaskan King Crab are worth the effort.

Chicken wings are a joke and a ripoff.

Here you go KFC-

"FREE Chicken Wing!* w/ pruchse of each breast"
People would respond very favorably to this and it would cost little.
I give you marketing genius, roll with it and stop calling a wing a piece of chicken. Really it's a "part", not a piece.

I have to concur, on this one... Chicken wings at bars/restaurants are a complete scam... Delicious buy WAY overpriced. Many of the wing Factories, huts and houses get away with charging more than a dollar a wing, the only time I will indulge is when they are on happy hour, sale of special, AYCE for example.

They are stored frozen, have a very long shelf life and I could quite literally train a monkey to fry them for 5 minutes, pour some pre-made sauce ant toss em. There are no culinary master in these Kitchens, just illegal wage donkeys.

Then, to boot, most of these spots charge extra for more sauce, dressing and celery. Gimme a break.

You can request "no wings" or "legs instead of wings". Most of the time they will do it for you. You have to request it with authority and expectation or they'll sense weakness ;)

If I could get drumsticks or thighs in place of wings, I would be ecstatic.

I'll have to try that, never thought of just asking, seriously.
