Well the holocaust give me 5-6 million Jewish individuals, roughly 63 million died in total during WWII, we could argue all year for a way to divide those between battles for natural resources versus religious intolerance but the holocaust was the catalysis.

If you wanted to throw me a bone, you could factor in the estimated worldwide population differences between the various conflicts (IE: 5 Million killed in the Crusades when world pop. was an estimated 250 Million extrapolates out to 50 Million in 1950 when the world pop was an estimated 10 times larger at 2.5 Billion.)
