Disturbing Data from DC School

Percentage of D.C Public Schools students deemed "proficient" in math and reading tests:
Elementary Reading:
Asian 73.28%
Black 35.80%
Hispanic 46.88%
White 89.96%
Elementary Math:
Asian 82.06%
Black 33.49%
Hispanic 52.89%
White 88.63%
Secondary Reading:
Asian 67.26%
Black 38.17%
Hispanic 48.69%
White 87.28%
Secondary Math:
Asian 85.63%
Black 39.79%
Hispanic 52.21%
White 89.04%
In every category Black students scored significantly lower than the other ethnic groups. I think this is a clear message that the environment from which the students come has the greatest impact on whether a student excels or not. After all, DC Schools spend more per student than any other local jurisdiction so it's not the money.

Well, according to Republicans, if you give teachers a merit bonus, they'll do just as good with the black kids as they will with the Asians or whites.
You make a good point. The problem with education in this country has a lot to do with the home life of the students. When a kid goes home and there's no father there and the mom is working all of the time to keep food on the table and the brother is involved in gangs, how the fuck is giving a teacher a bonus supposed to overcome that?

It certainly doesn't have anything to do with the teachers union and the NEA fighting for last in first out personnel policy. Crappy teachers punching time clocks and contributing $0.00 to their pension funds aren't an issue either.
You don't spend enough on education in DC. You need to pay much higher taxes for the children. Total spending is close to $25,000 per child -- on par with tuition at Sidwell Friends but this figure needs to double. That way positive steps can be taken by the teachers union funding campaigns like Obama's.His greatest contribution to children's education in DC was to shut down the voucher program for poor kids to attend private schools. The United States of America can ill afford blacks to be educated.
