DC and Los Angeles and Amtrak vs. flying or train

Round Trip: DC area to Los Angeles, train vs. plane
Somebody give me one good, logical reason why I should take the train over the plane?

--------AEROPLANE
US Airways / Continental
THREE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY NINE DOLLARS total
IAD 16:07 to LAX 7:43a US Airways SEVEN HOURS, TWENTY FOUR MINUTES
LAX 20:31 to IAD 15:29, FOUR HOURS, FORTY SIX MINUTES

--------TRAIN5
I'll spare you the details...it's a pain in the ass to copy and paste...
From DC to LA, sixty hours and fifteen minutes (not counting five hours layover in Chicago), at three hundred and nineteen dollars, twelve hours

reverse, roughly the same, except 10 hours longer + layover

PLANE: six hundred and forty dollars, round trip by train at almost one hundred hours

AMTRAK: three hundred eighty nine dollars, twelve hours

WTF!!!!

ding dong ditch.

There are a few reasons to take the train. You have to decide if these are worth it.

1 See America
2 Can be romantic if you are with your honey
3 A chance to get to know someone if they are a new honey
4 You can bring your own booze a train - at least you used to be able to.
5 Trains generally drop you in the middle of the city

Fairfaxunderground rules: Lilliputions, not ok. Midgettville ok. I got it now.

Probably the top reason is that some people are afraid to fly and would prefer a train over driving or taking a bus.

My understanding is that cross country routes for Amtrak are money losers. Personally, for me, the DC to NY route is about the extent I'll use a train. I will fly to Boston before taking a train there.

Do not buy a flight with a layover especially in Chicago, one of the busiest airports in the country. Pay the extra bucks for a non stop and get the earliest flight possible in the morning before all the delays start.
Transfer flights should only be considered when there are no non stops like to a smaller venue.
Chicago is way off your course, at the very least it shold be a stop in Denver or Phoenix

Is the layover in O'Hare or Midway? Midway's not so bad.

O'Hare sucks ass. You can't even sit in the fucking place. And my connection always seems to be in the other concourse.
