Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
What have you noticed that is not what people want to hear? Or, that may not be something that the masses would even entertain as a worthy thing / action to take notice of...?
A few examples:
- The Nazi regime advanced medical knowledge hundreds of years by experimenting on their captives. Many times resulting in the death of the person experimented on, but gaining huge amounts of medical knowledge along the way.
- The events of 9/11 created a time of lowered racial hatred and brought the country together and we had a "color-blind" society for a short time.
The above examples are an extreme, but maybe it will illustrate the idea.
Kind of a "silver-lining" hidden among some terrible action / event?
Anyone have any that stand out to them?

Here is one I noticed over the past few years - (Immigration)
I have the upmost respect for many immigrants that are putting in the effort and work to better their own, and families, lives. I have seen many many times immigrants or persons of latin / middle eastern ethnicity (male and female) walking and riding their bikes to work. No matter the weather, they make this trip to work...yes, many times they are employed at a local 7-11 or McDonalds, but it is honest work. (Ever notice how both of these businesses are ALWAYS open regardless of weather?) It may sound simple, but I really just admire some of these people's dedication and perseverance. Another note - is that many of these people, working for very little money, still find a way to send some back to their families, if they do not live in the USA.
I often think of the usual DC area complaints about traffic and think of these people on their bikes, or walking, and it just puts things in a better perspective.
--------
I am aware of the bad elements that are found in the immigrant communities and some of the violent situations that arise also...I wanted to just note something positive that I personally admire.

I didn't know the Nazi regime had email.

Nowadays it does. Fine you're correct, it could be traditional mail as well to convey 'promoting' though it's rarely heard in this term.

Still incorrect. "Progress" as a verb is intransitive, i.e., it doesn't take an object. You can progress, but you can't progress something.
The word you're looking for is advanced.
