Colonial Beach

Hey all... I wanted to cram in one more weekend excursion this summer and had my eye on Colonial Beach, VA. It's closer and looks pretty quiet compared to VA beach or Ocean City. Anyone ever been there? Any input? I googled it already but I'd like a personal account.

Thanks!

Interesting place - not a whole lot to do there but it has a beach area, a small board walk and such.

Yeah, I looked into it, too, when I saw the OP. It looks real quiet except for the jet ski races. Seemed like a good place to catch some sun on the beach but it looks like the water is fenced off about 20 feet in and the beach is only about 50 feet deep and full of shells, so no bare feet running around playing frisbee...

That's what worries me. I go to the beach to lay on the sand and swim in the water... I don't really care about any other attractions. I don't want to go down there and find out that the water portion of the beach is only suitable for wading.

I went to another beach one time only to find out that the water was only for wading and I went home the same day. I don't need 10-foot tall waves or anything but I don't just want to stand around in water up to my knees like a moron.

Thanks for the feedback. Anyone know anything more about the beach there?

You can go in the water, but the only time you get big waves is when boats go by outside the nets. In times when there is not much rain, the area can be full of jellyfish, although the nets are supposed to prevent that. The beach is nice enough and generally well maintained and the water is certainly deep enough to swim a bit, but it is not an ocean beach, it is on the Potomac River. In the old days it was a hopping place - back when Maryland allowed for casinos all over the place - they used to have pier buildings out in the water that were technically part of Maryland and allowed for gambling.

when i was there last, early 90s, the place was hard core hickory. massive amounts of harley riding jackasses. i recall this one bar/restaurant, on the water as youre heading into to town, as the mecca for them.

a friend of mine had a family friend that owned a house down there and we would go on occasion for weekend trips. it was like being in a third world country, the house didnt even have hot water, well it, but if the sun wasnt out you wouldnt have any since the black painted water tank on the roof didnt get any rays. LOL

Wingnut's some hillbilly who would fit right in with all the retarded rednecks who go to Col. Beach. A bunch of low-rent dumbasses who can't afford VA Beach, so they head up there to gorge their fat asses and swim in that shitty water.

If you haven't been to the Beach lately, you're missing out! The beach is bouncing back!
New sand on the beach, gorgeous new patio with fountain at The Espresso Station, The old Landing/Happy Clam is now The Lighthouse Restaurant, etc.
Yes, the jetski races are back again this year - they had such a great time here last year they decided to come back. It's this weekend, so the beach will be packed.

And gigantic redneck women who think they still look good in a bathing suit but haven't for 20 years.

It's really not an attractive place.

Most of the blackfolk are Uncle Tom. It's the Hispanicfolk that have taken over.

I have some distant redneck relatives who live down there. Went there once for a family reunion and will never go back. I never got how they can call it a "beach". They all basically built on wetlands before it was illegal to do that. It's just a swamp.

Yeah, I agree. The "beach" looks depressing and sad. I think there are maybe 4 motels there that are 2 star at best. The only things cool about the place is that it is a convenient place to access the bay by boat and there are friendly skanks around.
