Dan Savage: "I wish [Republicans] were all f*****g dead."
Posted by: The New Dialogue ()
Date: July 16, 2011 12:40PM

Yet another example of liberal hypocrisy. After Rep. Giffords was shot, the media went into mouth-frothing witch hunt mode pointing out any suggestion--real or imagined--that Republicans advocated violence and were inserting venom into the political discourse. Now we have a prominent and outspoken liberal wishing all Republicans were dead. Yet there won't be a single word about it from the MSM. No hand-wringing, no moralizing, no calls for his censure or for the statement's retraction. Why? Because the left (and thus the media) is packed with fucking hypocrites of the first order. Have a good fucking weekend.

No name, no reference? Give me a break, Im sure this is just another example of Republicans finding some yahoo who they describe as a liberal shooting his mouth off. Come on, give us a name and a reference. Otherwise STFU.

Do we care what Sex Advisor Dan Savage says about [Republicans] - whatever "[Republicans]" is?

He says he's sorry. Probably was stoned at the time.

>>> "...I was on Real Time with Bill Maher tonight. I was talking to someone at the party after the show, and they asked me how I thought it went. Okay, I said—and then I told them that I said something really, really stupid, half under my breath, and I was relieved that Bill and the rest of the panel didn't hear it. But folks watching the show at home might have heard it... so... I want to apologize for... um... wishing all Republicans dead.

I don't feel that way. My dad is a Republican. (Well, he says he's an independent, but he hasn't voted for a Democrat since JFK. My dad is a Republican.) I'm fond of Michael Bloomberg and William Weld and Lincoln Chafee, and I wish no harm—save the political variety—on those Republicans I loathe. Even the one Republican I really had it in for once upon a time—Ronald Reagan—managed to outlive my anger.

It was a stupid, rude, thoughtless remark. I regret it and I retract it and I apologize to anyone watching at home—particularly my father (!)—who may have heard me say it. I had a drink before the show—first and last time I've ever done that—but this wasn't a case of, "In vino, veritas."

This was a case of, "In vino, stupidtas."

I actually don't have anything against Dan Savage personally. He's always seemed intelligent, well-spoken and non-inflammatory. It speaks well of him that he immediately retracted the statement. This thread has more to do with the media--who, if a Republican had said that about Democrats would have been frothing like a raccoon with rabies to skewer that person with professed moral indignation. The fact that his fellow liberal panelists SAID NOTHING!!! Imagine if Rep. Issa had said that on that show. Bill Maher would have taken him to task. The MSM has said not a word about this. If it had been Laura Ingram, you can guarantee that NBC would be screaming the news.

Does anyone really not see the double standard?

Who is Dan Savage? He means nothing to anyone. He's not an elected member of Congress yelling "liar" at the President during the State of the Union Address. He's some idiot columnist who made a stupid remark on TV and then apologized for it.

I have yet to hear Sarah Palin or any major elected Republican official apologize for any violence-oriented language or imagery they've used against Obama over the past few years. When they apologize, then maybe the OP has a point.

Savage doesn't know squat about politics to begin with.
"Sex and relationships" are his specialty and he's gay to boot.
Nobody I'd be interested in listening to or taking seriously.

Sorry, Dan Savage is more than just a sex columnist. He's one of the most outspoken and well-known media pundits on the left. He's also a leading advocate of gay rights (a position I support), which is one of the central social causes of the left. Unless you're completely unplugged or uninformed, theres no way you would just call him a "Sex Advisor."

False. WTL, tell me you're not this uninformed. He's a major pundit on the left. He started the "it gets better project" and is a frequent guest on liberal shows, as well as an author.

Second, since when is Sarah Palin a "major elected Republican official"? Oh right, she's not. Prove that she or anyone on the right has stated that they hope that Democrats die. Prove it. If Rush Limbaugh had said that he wanted all Democrats dead (note, he is not an elected official) do you think the MSM Would be asleep at the wheel?

Seriously, I don't know or care who this fucking guy in. He simply doesn't have the profile of Limbaugh or Beck and for you to pretend otherwise is, well, pretending.

She was in 2008 when she was the governor of Alaska and the GOP VP nominee. Pretty fucking major, in fact.

The MSM wouldn't sleep on Limbaugh because Limbaugh is a well-known national figure. Savage isn't.

I didn't say he had the same profile as Beck or Limbaugh. I said that he's major, which he is. And so you admit you're ill-informed...okay, that explains a lot.

You said she IS an elected official. She is as much of an elected official as I am. Are you purporting that she said that Democrats should be killed when she was Alaska gov. or running for VP? Can you show me a single instance of when she (or any other prominent Republican) said that they wished Democrats would die? You're pinning your entire argument on some stupid ass campaign add that featured crosshairs in certain districts. Big fucking deal. Wartime metaphors are a constant in politics (ever hear of a "campaign"?). If a Republican of equal stature to Dan Savage had made remarks to the effect that he wished Dems would die, the MSM would be in gestapo mode. I can tell you that.

Dan Savage is a marginal figure. To pretend otherwise, as you have been doing, is just being dishonest.

Uh, I didn't. Re-read what I wrote. Once again you are trying to distort facts to prove you baseless arguments.

Maybe. The difference is Dan Savage quickly apologized. With the Republicans, the nutcases would circle the wagons around a marginal pundit like Savage and he would refuse to apologize until he lost his job. That's kind of the GOP M.O. They aren't reasonable people who think they are capable of making mistakes.

Watch your word choice. He's not "marginal." I fully admit that he's not as prominent as Limbaugh or Beck, but he's not marginal. In fact, he's prominent.

Yes, correction. You IMPLIED she's was an elected official, and further that being an elected official conferred some sort of extra prominence.

Yes, he did. He should be given credit for that. My post is more about how the media acts, not Dan Savage. And, can you show give me an example of the nutcases circling the wagons after a prominent Republican made a statement akin to Savage's?

I think my problem is I don't watch too much TV other than food/science/history-type cable channels.

You're not missing a whole lot. Guys like Bill Maher and Dan Savage aren't exactly moving our political discourse in the right direction. I should point out that Beck and Limbaugh aren't either.

Yeah, all these gays talk about wanting to be accepted and all their "rights" and then people like this guy and Perez Hilton trash talk anyone who disagrees with them. They are not open minded at all. They have the same agendas, just different sides. So they are really Bigots themselves.

Yes, they're hypocrites. I used to think that Savage was above that kind of intellectual dishonesty, but apparently he's not. (Yes, I accept this apology and his explanation, but it does have the air of "some of my best friends are black" about it.) You just can't wish that people who disagree with you are dead and say you're not a bigot.

I misread your post. I don't think all gays are hypocrites. I think that Perez and Dan S. need a lesson in tolerance. Not all gays.

Dan started a campaign to come up with a sex act called a "Santorum". I look at his column every now then but the guy is just weird...and now showing that he is a Libtard too!

santorum (san-TOR-um) n.
1. The frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter
that is sometimes the by-product of anal sex.

You Republicans are desperate for attenion to take some comment this nobody said under his breath as an afront. The attention even this shittard blog has given to this event is the biggest non-event of the year. If this is what you need to define your outrage then you Republicans are truly worthless human being needing a little real turmoil in your lives.

Unfortunatly, wishing someone dead doesn't work. It's inevitable anyway, but thinking or saying it does not speed up the process.
If it did work, no one would go slow in the left lane, talk on the cell phone or text while driving because they'd all be dead from my best wishes.

Are you aware Dan Savage of Index Newspapers (AKA Index Publishing), 1535 11th Ave (3rd Fl), Seattle is using Google to harass ex-Senator Rick Santorum?

Google "Santorum" or visit spreadingsantorum.com. There are thousands of people in the world with the last name Santorum.

In addition Savage promoted a campaign to harass Muslims by drawing Mohammed: http://southern4life.blogspot.com/2010/04/dan-savage-promotes-first-annual.html

Dan Savage's behavior is disturbing and deviant and should be discouraged for the sake of maturity and basic decency. The main stream takes him seriously. Savage

did an interview on Thursday (22 Sept) With CBS's The Early Show.

Please give America some help by speaking out about Savage. Contact politicians, churches, universities and the media (anyone that might host this clown) because

this could happen to any of us...even anonymous help.

Here's a video of Savage threatening Santorum: http://m.funnyordie.com/videos/602a41c3d7/dan-savage-s-new-threat-to-rick-santorum

I would like the opportunity to debate Mr. Savage's stance on Monogamy. I feel I have a pretty good counter argument.
