Mission To Mars WTF?!

How is this movie rated PG? Wouldn't this be frightening for kids?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0183523/

"Despite PG rating, an astronaut is shown being caught up in a violent cyclone, and then spun so fast that he is literally ripped apart, with the sounds of bones breaking.

A rock slams into the faceplate of an astronaut's spacesuit. A small amount of blood can be seen briefly on the broken glass."

I remember it being a kind of crappy movie.

PG means "Parental Guidance Suggested" so it doesn't mean "send your toddler" alone.

No adult should be forced to sit through this cheap rip-off of 2001 (complete with whoring product placements).

That was the summer Hollywood went Mars-crazy and had this and Red Planet, also a bad movie.

Definitely shitty movie, lol. I saw it in theaters when I was 11 yrs old and found this scene to be pretty frightening. I guess kids these days are pretty desensitized to bodies being brutally ripped apart?

The only scary thing about the movie was that people actually accept the shitty physics in it.

Seriously?

If I could remember the plot of the movie I might agree with you......but I don't think plot was foremost on my mind when I saw it.

How the hell did a rock randomly hit that guy in the face? If the inflow of the storm was pulling debris towards it, wouldn't the rock hit him in the back? I'm pretty sure he was facing the storm.

One of those two movies had the guy instantly freeze when he opened up his spacesuit in the vacuum of space....

Pretty lame and unrealistic; plus the movies that show explosive decompression rather than insta-freeze are always cooler. :)

Red Planet also had some questionable physics, alright, but I give them props for at least trying. Mission to Mars not so much. Plus Red Planet had a better story and characters.

Val Kilmer (before he started selling Gallo wine), tits, a killer demented robot, tits, a funny guy mathmatician, tits......and quite a few times there were nipples with those tits.

I ask you...is there more to life than that?

Wasn't Red Planet the one where the scientific robot had a switch you could flip to make it a murderer? I'm pretty sure the Viking lander had a murder machine switch, too. All NASA robots did.

"V ger" didn't have a switch.

A long time ago I went to the movies with a friend and his sister. Don't recall the movie but I do remember the fight they had afterward. Well, part of it anyway...

"During the six years you spent in college bankrupting mom and dad, did the word FICTION ever come up? Next time I go to see a movie, I'm dropping you off at the fucking library."

I liked the special effects and the weird soundtrack, but that's about it. Red Planet was pretty much the same, on a lesser scale.
