I've had mild anxiety all my life and have finally taken a step to reduce it. I was prescribed 20mg of Celexa and within days my anxiety was gone, and I was calm and more focused than I ever have been. The only side effect is that I am very tired throughout the day. I know this is a common side effect, but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and how long it lasts?

3 to 4 weeks, possibly a little longer. Once your body is accustom to the medicine, the tiredness and sleepyness will go away.
Your metabolism is slowing down, a side effect of Celexa. You will also find out that you might be hungry a lot.

20mg is not a large dose. Is Celexa the only one you are taking?

Yes, it is the only thing I am taking.

I have noticed that on some days I barely eat and other days I'm hungry all the time. I can deal with that, but the tiredness is very annoying.

I am aware that 20mg is not a large dose, and was surprised to notice the anxiety dissipate after a day or two of taking the medicine. I may eventually bump up to 40mg if the tiredness begins to cease.

It has been one week now, so I guess I'll give it a few more. I just wish I had energy to go to the gym like I used to, and not want to sleep all the time.

Any particular reason why you're on Celexa rather than Lexapro?

No, the Doctor just prescribed Celexa...

I'm currently trying to schedule to see another doctor because the current one just seems to throw medicine in my lap and never explains anything to me- then walks me out the door two minutes later. o_0
