To disclose or not to disclose.........that is the question.

I say disclose it since their salaries are paid with tax payer money. If they don't like it, they can get real jobs and work in the private sector. Maybe phase it in or grandfather clause

I wonder how many have drug related charges....

Under the new rules, school districts must notify students' parents when employees are arrested or charged with any felonies or misdemeanors involving sexual assault, child abuse or indecent exposure. Drug arrests are supposed to be disclosed, but not arrests for marijuana possession.

sounds fair to me... It's not violating their privacy, as it's public record, might as well communicate with parents and keep them informed...

I agree as long as bus drivers' DUI charges are publicized and all elected officials' financial portfolios are accessible online.

Of course I can't agree with the policy, look at all the false accusations we discuss here. Notify on conviction. If you want to notify on arrest, back it up with a payment in the amount of three years' pay to the accused in the event of subsequently-dropped charges or not-guilty verdict. The person will need at least that long to rebuild a life somewhere after a false (and publicized) allegation.

I don't have a daughter, but to your point the problem is the stakes are higher because of the presumption of guilt. Learning my neighbor got arrested for something and me avoiding sending my kids there doesn't put him out of a job and a life if he was later found not guilty. Splashing pics in a newspaper before trial does that.

Obviously the school bus DUI charges would be after hiring, but I think you were just trying to be funny.

In a perfect world you'd be right. When are you leaving for that perfect world by the way?

In this world, teachers and administrators get busted all the time. Not informing the public (as you would for anyone else that gets arrested) only gives the school district time to take that person out of circulation then stick them back in at a different position. Whether found guilty or not. It's how they've skirted the system for years.

How do you feel about homeschoolers, martial arts instructors, music teachers, tutors, swim teachers, the list goes on and on.. having their names and faces plastered all over the media?

We do and I am delighted we have it, it is called the sex offender list and is available online at any time, here try it http://www.fairfaxinfo.com/offend.aspx.

It comes at the conclusion of something in America called a "trial" (ref http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/trial) and is a part of Constitutionally-guaranteed "due process" (ref http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/due+process).

Nice try but a failed attempt at twisting this around.

You wont be able to answer this question with any sort of factual logic but I'll ask it anyway........

What makes teachers so special that they are allowed privacy when every other citizen of this country is not afforded the same PRIOR to having their day in court?

As far as I know..there are no underage teachers.

BTW..you have no answer to this question. But you'll answer this post with some fucked up tangent on a completely different theme......claim that's where you were going the whole time........wait a minute, didn't you just accuse WingNut of the same thing?

YOU ARE WINGNUT????????????????????????????????????????????

Good one. Had me fooled.

I already answered that question, I don't know how else to say it or dumb it down so you'll be able to understand it but I'll give it another try. Teachers lose their careers on the accusation, which does not happen to a truck driver or a restaurant waiter. The penalty for being a teacher and innocent of an accusation of sexual impropriety is much higher than other occupations and crimes. Therefore it requires more protection.

As I said in the Lannigan thread and elsewhere, plaster their pictures up on every piece of media possible if they are convicted of the crime, but not before.

Read this story. http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/fairfax-teacher-sean-lanigan-still-suffering-from-false-molestation-allegations/2011/03/04/AFVwhh3G_print.html

Can you honestly say after reading what that man went through that accusations should be publicized? If so there is something seriously wrong with you, or you have some aspect of mental challenge.

Make sure the teachers have to disclose their birth certificates, too. The long form, too, none of this short form shit.

Is that supposed to impress me? If I don't agree with you, you say there's something wrong with me and that's it?

But you said something very similar in another post about Cantor........this is your thing isn't it? Anyone that doesn't tow your line is retarded.....except you don't like that word?

Anyway.........yeah yeah..so sad and all that shit. Anytime someone is acquitted of charges and I get all weepy and stuff. How wonderful for him. He got away with it.

Still doesn't change my feelings though. If you are hanging around trouble, it's going to bite you in the ass whether it's your fault or not. If after talking to the 12 year and Sean, the investigators felt the need to arrest him.........he did something wrong. Yeah, yeah...plenty of people get nailed for shit they didn't do. I know a guy that spent 34 years in prison for a murder he didn't do. DNA finally let him out. Know what he said right out of the gate? "My fault..I chose to go to that bar and I knew what kind of place it was."

If ANYone (including Mr. IMF) is arrested, the public should be told. The simple fear of being arrested used to keep a whole lot more people on the straight and narrow then the ability to keep it under wraps now, does.

One check mark for changing the subject, and another for taking my arguments as if they meant something about you personally. Defensive much?

AHHH, the old "he may not be guilty of this, but we'll convict because he MUST be guilty of SOMETHING if he is arrested! I lol'd. And then I ROFLOL'd.

Your premise leaves out other possibilities, such as suspending the teacher and removing him or her from the school WITHOUT splashing up the charges in the newspapers and online. If word gets out it will get out, but I find that much preferable to firing and public red-lettering before a conviction.

The school can believe it isn't my business to know due to possibility of innocence and they would be 100% correct. People can get suspended from jobs for hundreds of reasons, and the school can say the teacher is on administrative leave. Following conviction the school can announce permanent termination if it wants to and give the reasons for it, including police contact info if any parents have concerns or evidence of other crimes the authorities should know about concerning the teacher.

The consequences of ruining a life over a kid not liking the music being played in a gym outweigh the benefits of media plastering. We live in a nation of presumed innocence. I gave a middle-ground solution that removes an alleged predator from a school while providing due process to the accused and justice to the victim.

According to court documents, Christopher James Tator, 31, was discovered by the FBI Washington Field Office’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force making child pornography files available over an Internet file-sharing network. A computer forensic examination of devices seized from Tator’s residence during a search warrant revealed that he had used a computer to download child pornography videos from a Dropbox cloud storage account. Tator’s devices also contained hundreds of thumbnail images of children being sexually abused, many of which depicted the sexual abuse of infants. Tator is a registered sex offender as a result of a 2010 Prince William County conviction of attempting to take indecent liberties with children.
