Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
Ford wants cops to start driving a police interceptor Taurus. We test drove one this week and they suck! Front wheel drive and unibody construction have no place in law enforcement.
80% of cabs and cop cars in the US were LTDs or the mercury version of it. Why would they mess with success like that?????
The new Ford Taurus appears to be an improvement with V6 motor that has more hp than the current 4.8L V8. This will of course mean better gas mileage.
Front wheel drive police cars tend to hold the road better. The drawback is that these cars need a very heavy duty strut to keep up with the demands of police driving.
A unibody frame tends to be stronger with little to no welding spots for the frame.

The police interceptor package is all wheel drive. The turbocharged v6 blows the doors off any crown vic. The tore-ass handles like its on rails and they make a crossover suv version of it. The car has a removable chip to tone the power down and govern speed to 90mph max when the worn cars are re-assigned or sold off as surplus.
Only down side is the unibody will make it much more likely to be totaled in a crash and cause the taxpayers to buy replacements. Crash survival rates are expected to be higher.
Ford is doing it right, we all pay for law enforcement vehicles with our tax dollars and I bet ford continues to give us a great deal.

I bet you're one of those jaded "fuck the pigs" douchebags. Show some respect you fucking faggot.
I can't wait til you get stabbed, bleeding on the sidewalk, and the officer can't get to you in time because he's rolling in a Smart Car.

Maybe in this case, however, that's not always the case.
2008 Nissan 350z (3.5L V6): 18 cty/25 hwy
2011 Ford Mustang GT (5.0L V8): 17 cty/26 hwy

It really depends on the road conditions. Of course FWD will handle better on slick roads...

I understand that the police interceptor will be all wheel drive.
Biggest complaint I have heard is that one PIT manuver can total the taurus and cost the taxpayers 45 grand for a new one. The body on frame construction of the crown vic would only require a fender replacement after a PIT manuver.

The fact is that calling the cops is often a great way to make a bad situation much worse. Everybody wants security and comfort and they go "crawling back like little bitches", but statistically you far more likely to be killed by a police officer than by a terrorist.
BTW, I like the way you refer to citizens as crawling little bitches. Pretty much shows your attitude toward those you "serve" in a nutshell, you undisciplined costumed tax leach. Always butthurt because people don't appreciate you.

You're probably just butthurt over a speeding ticket.

So now you're assuming that I am a police officer? Nope. Just an appreciative citizen. I guess that's a rarity now days...
BTW, I never referred to citizens in general as "crawling little bitches." That special title is reserved for YOU and any other cop-bashing scum out there.

Badge-lickers? Nope, you're a dime-a-dozen. Back to watching your CSI reruns, dependent boy.

Lol ...and Cop-haters aren't a dime-a-dozen? How original...
Back to watching YouTube videos of police abuse and assuming that that's a realistic representation of all cops. Bandwagon retard.

My guess is that they were losing money. Lots of makes/models to choose from now, few of which are Ford.

The handling is rather sluggish and the lack of rear seat space/rear doors makes it impractical for police use.
