Why do black people walk slow in the cross walks?
Posted by: Patient and Waiting ()
Date: July 01, 2011 07:49AM

Not trying to start anything but I'm sure I will.....

Why do black people walk slower when they are in the cross walks? They will look at you and give you that " I am going to walk as slow as I can" attitude. On the other hand they will nearly run your ass over if a white person is in the cross walk. Most other peple tend to hurry up a little to get out of the way. Am I the only one that has noticed or had this experience? Just an honest observation.

I know I see it more in "certain" neighborhoods, thats

but I also see it in other races and white ppl at places like Tysons - the entitled fucks will walk in the middle of the parking garage lane towards their cars, going all slightly diagonally instead of just simply crossing the "street"

But to OP - yeah, you go out to NE or SE, and yeah, you see that a LOT with the crosswalk thing.

My buddy and I were going to the Nats game the other week and two african american teens were walking dead in the middle of a street. We pulled up behind them and let em know we were there but the refused to move. So we honked and went around them and they proceeded to cuss us out and flip birds and what not. Anyways some folks just have an unearned sense of entitlement, thats how she goes.

People who feel diminished in regular life always take the oppertunity to show disdain for others whenever they get the chance. Knowing that people are waiting for them is their way of getting back at their oppresors.

I was on the S. E. Freeway once when a bunch of punks were
jaywalking across in front of me and started walking really
slow when they saw me getting closer. I was slowing down to
a point but decided to have a little fun as I've seen this
shit one too many times. I had a very snazzy sports car that
made some noise so I dropped it into neutral and gunned the
motor to give it some audio effect even though I was actually
slowing down. Scared the shit out of them and they ran like hell
to get out of the way. They cussed and screamed very bad things
about my skin color and my mother.

At one point I thought about getting a freon boat horn to
entertain jokers like that with but I figure they'd probably
start shooting at me.

This is exactly it.

Psychology always provides the answer.

They do it because when the do, they feel they control you and have power over you. It's they same when the drive. They have to be in front of you car so tey can control your speed. If they were the only ones on the road, they would drive differently. I think they are all a bunch of selfish bastards.

For the record, I am caucasian of Italian and German descent. The topic at hand (IMHO) has less to do with class or race and more to do with status. I grew up in Baltimore City and for the first 10 years I was around Greenmont and 33rd, which anyone from the area will attest to, is a predominantly black area and you still would probably think twice before parking your car there even today - back in the 70's there were Black Panthers and other gangs running all over the place looking for trouble. We then moved to Hampden, near Falls Rd and 36th street (it is nicer now, but back in the 80's it was all white trash and the heroin hub of the city).

I saw both blacks and whites exhibiting the EXACT same behavior. All that little stunt is, is a ploy for status. You walk slow and if the guy in the car slows down, you pulled his card. If he has balls or the willingness to start shit (which in the city can escalate real quick to something that nobody wants) then it hits the fan.

Most of the time, the car will just slow down and keep going, which means that the guy walking "stole" a little status by doing so in front of everyone at the intersection, while the guy in the car really didn't lose much cuz he kept driving and no one was really paying attention anyway.

Then you have those few rare occasions when the driver honks or yells at the guy, but this is an almost certain recipe for confrontation. I have actually seen a guy draw down on an offending "honker" and was like, "what, Muthafucka? what you got to say now?" while pointing the gun at the guy's girlfriend. And that was a WHITE guy! Compensating? probably, but he definitely won the "status exchange".

Inner city is inner city, no matter what color you are. If the person walking slow is in your way, I always just slow down for a minute and give way. It only takes a second and avoids any unwanted trouble (unless I'm out looking for trouble, which is a whole other topic and is something I haven't felt the urge to do in years). If he needs status THAT bad that he has to "take it" in such a contrived way, then I say let him have it. He obviously doesn't have anything else to live for. And people with nothing to lose are unpredictable at best and downright psychotic at worst.

I think the air horn idea is the best. I would recommend installing a train horn to your vehicle. Case in point:

Same thing on the Metro escalators...either stand side-by-side or take up or stand in the middle and holding up everyone behind them.

I can tolerate that compared to fat-fucks on the subway that somehow think they can only occupy one seat and leave you squished up next to the window and having their fat ass bodies in direct contact. Gross. This transcends all races though.

The fact that this is a forum, and that people are contributing to this legitimately says a lot about you. first, to assume that its only black people doing this, is quite ignorant. its a cross walk, slow down, and move on. its really not that big of a deal. second, if you are thinking like this...then you deserve every bit of profanity they have to offer you, and you prove you are just as ignorant and immature as you are.

Amen. It is awfully racist to think that black people are the only ones walking in the street. The spics do it too.

You are very lucky that is all they did. In PG yesterday a five year old shot a four year old and later on a guy killed another guy for a pair of shoes he was wearing. They wouldnt think twice about capping some whitey for disrespecting their right to walk in the middle of the street.

I think it is correct that this behavior has more to do with status than race. But depeneding on location, race and status often go hand in hand, and in turn, status and behaviors go hand in hand. Where I am, blacks are the majority of the population, and also account for the majority of poverty level income and housing. There are rich blacks that behave in a less stereotypical way, but more often they behave in disrespectful ways in my observation.

I think it's OBVIOUS that not ALL blacks walk slowly in crosswalks. Not all blacks like rap (but there is a trend isn't there?). Not all blacks pronounce the word "ask" like "aks". Not all blacks are even black for that matter (some are albino). When someone asks a question like this, he is asking why there is a trend in black (or whatever) culture that inspires this kind of annoying behavior. I just think blacks get all bent out of shape when they hear the question, because it's a negative reflection of their race and they want to squelch the person inquiring and say how ignorant he is for thinking all black people are the same. It's deflection.

But look at any of Chris Rock's stand ups. It's an hour and half of him saying "black people do this" and "white people do that." "White people hope, black people wish. White people hope no one is in their seat, black people WISH a muthafucka was in their seat." (The black audience laughs). "Men do this" and "women do that." Chris Rock can make generalizations about black people... AND white people all day long. I don't think that makes him a racist - he is simply making observations. I think that making observations and generalizations isn't always that difficult to do, it isn't always inaccurate, and doing so doesn't mean someone is ignorant. Psychologists and sociologists devote their lives and studies to finding patterns in human behavior - the causes and the effects. Wouldn't it be more ignorant to ignore the fact that so many black people cross the street slowly and not wonder "What the fuck is this shit?"

You know, because they were slaves.

Umm, I mean their parents were slaves.

No no, I meant their grandparents

Wait that's not it, their great grandparents?

No? Well at some point in the past there were some black people and they were slaves to the white man. So now for the rest of existence, the slaves' ancestors are going to whine about it.

And for the rest of existence white people are culturally obligated to feel guilty about it even if your family never owned slaves.

Whenever someone pulls this crap with me, I just throw on my hazards, put the car in neutral and floor the gas until they're out of the cross walk. Sometimes I'll even roll down the window and yell out asking if they can help by pushing my car. Dumb asses actually help sometimes... haha. Then the jokes on them once I shift back in drive and go on driving...

It's practically universal in the USA. It's aggravating! I wish a truthful black person would respond here & give us an honest answer. When I'm crossing a crosswalk & a car is waiting for me, I hurry it up. But black folks lean back and SLOW DOWN, all the while looking at me like they are daring me to honk my horn or worse, run them over! Why do this? It's not age-specific either ... it's universal... all ages & socio-economic levels of blacks. I have nothing against black folks, but when they project their 'chip-on-the-shoulder' attitude onto ME, it's ridiculous! I've tried all sorts of facial expression: from stoic to smiles, laughs, waving 'hello', frown, flipping the bird, no effect-- they just lean back, stare at me with their 'I dare you' smirk and slow down. Some even fake a 'need' to stop & fiddle with their shoes, like they have suddenly come untied and it's critical for them to hold everyone up to re-tie them!... crazy behavior...As I understand it, California law says pedestrians have to be all the way across & on the sidewalk before cars can cross the crosswalk. So black folks have even stopped just short of the sidewalk, stayed in the crosswalk & talked with their friends or made cell phone calls! Of course I don't wait that long, but I could get a ticket too - they put people in the position of having to either wait an unreasonable amount of time for these black folks to get onto the sidewalk, or risk breaking the law & proceeding through, with these lolly-gaggers still standing like fools in the street, hold up the cars. SO PLEASE... a black person needs to explain this, because it makes no sense to me at all!

The answer is simple. It's a moment of enpowerment in an otherwise unenfluencial life.

It's the same mindset of the douchebags who drive in the left lane and don't let anyone pass. They get to enforce their will on you, and they cherish it.

Thank you for your response. Are you black? I only ask because I can't believe I am so naive if what you say is true. If you aren't black, then don't bother to reply -- I need to be enlightened with the facts from a 'black source' here. Are black people's lives so bad in 2012, that the only way they can feel empowered is to hold up traffic while they saunter through crosswalks? How does this help them feel better about their perceived situation? How can so many people of one skin color still be treated (or feel they are being treated) in such a way that they only have this passive aggressive method to feel OK about themselves? How can I make a difference.... it seems there have been so many affirmative action programs rolled out that the 'playing field' should be more level by now. But if I'm this naive, then what can I do to help?

Oh yea. Living in Unfairfax county I see this much more with older white folks. In places where they don't really have the right of way, or when I have the green arror and they shouldn't be crossing. Again, I'm 100% black and often get clowned for rushing to cross (on foot) lol. My wife is from NYC, so she always laughs at me. F that. I so too many bad drivers out here in VA. I won't be the one getting hit. If I do (get hit), I WILL be that brother falling out going into convulsions. Is what it is son.

Black cat is bad luck, bad guys wear black
Musta been a white guy who started all that

My expression to the mountainous blue eyes
Then form a face, and shake my skull cap
Dismiss the myth, that evil is not black
but opposite spectrum, this done by red man

Because they're worthless, stupid, disgusting pieces of sh_t who are too stupid to realize that they're so stupid, and therefore have to blame their utter failure at everything on "racism." This, of course, is reinforced by delusional liberals in the media and in academia 24/7. Because of this, they are p'd off at the world. I can't even begin to imagine someone using their search feature with special terms and going back 2 years for racist threads.

Seeing how many racist threads this site produces daily. He probably had to go back over 20 pages to find this topic and bump it.

It boggles the mind.

The only thing is, it's hard to say it is just a race thing. A guy in the crosswalk but still jaywalking had his kid with him. I'm not sure why he thought that was a good idea but this was a white guy downtown. My mom complains that it is white people, especially tourists, who are guilty of doing this (and so have random cabbies that I've ridden with) so apparently this problem is more than racial.

I do see more young black guys think that they can seriously jaywalk (walk into the street without timing it so that they will be in the way by the time the car arrives) when I have the green light. This pisses me off. I don't normally don't slow down and they end up picking up the pace.
I'm not going so fast that I couldn't break in time anyway but I am going fast enough that they know to keep it moving.

Some people just have a slow ass way of getting around. They like to mosey Southern style or they think that their way of walking is cool.

I relate it more to what they do for a living or personality....if they are being told what to do all the time or they don't have control of a lot of things they walk all slow across streets making cars & others wait on them, makes them feel empowered. Its similar to 10 seconds of fame.

Its just a big fuck you from them. You also see it from young white kids, who usually grow out of it, and homeless. They feel society failed them and its a payback. That attitude is deeply ingrained in the black community. When they have, most often, failed themselves.

I don't have problems with them. I just drive regular and if they don't move I run them over. So far, They get out of the way. When I'm in the store they always move out of my way, well most of the time. In that case I will run into them and cuss them out and tell them to get the f out the way with my most demonic voice. They get the message.

When they are driving in the passing lane side by side with somebody else going 45 in a 55, I ride thier ass and blow the horn and flash the high beams. If that doesn't work, I go on the shoulder and cut them off. They can't drive worth a f so they always back off then.BTW, white people do this dumb stuff too (drive in the passing lane side by side).

They think they are going tob mess with me but in the end they lose. They are the ones running for their life. It's their own fault. Idiots.

It's amazing, isn't it? We are allowed to make observations about any other group of people except blacks. When we do, there are always a few who are quick to point out, "Oh, it's not just blacks! It's a class thing! Whites do it, too!" It's just another way for the politically correct to control the dialogue. This protected class of folks is apparently beyond criticism. (If anyone's oppressed, it's us, not blacks. Like the saying goes: Want to know who's really oppressing you? Take a look at who you're not allowed to criticize.)

When people notice that blacks are better athletes, nobody jumps up and says, "Not all blacks! Whites are good athletes, too!" I don't see the PC Police objecting when I notice blacks are good dancers, fast runners, or high jumpers, either. ("It's not just blacks! I saw a white kid jump really high one time!")

Yet as soon as I observe, "Gee, why is it every time I see someone sauntering down the middle of the street, they're black?" some people find it necessary to point out the obvious: "Not ALL blacks!"

Nobody suggested ALL BLACKS walk down the center of the road, or jaywalk, or are inconsiderate to other drivers in the process. But based on what we've observed, it's almost always black folks. We are addressing a trend, a tendency we've observed for a behavior that we've noticed nearly always occurring with blacks. This is all the more significant considering that many of us do not live in the ghetto, and that blacks in our hometowns are NOT the majority. If you're in downtown Detroit, Baltimore, Camden, or Newark, of course all the jaywalkers will be black, since the majority of it's residents are black. But I see the same trend in my county, which is around 30% black. If "everyone" engages in this behavior, then I should see blacks sauntering down the middle of the street about 30% of the time. But so far, the only times I've witnessed this (which is frequently), the guilty parties are black. I'm not making it up, nor am I turning a blind eye to all the other races supposedly guilty of this. People don't talk about the whites, Asians, or Hispanics walking in the street because we haven't SEEN ANY doing it.

We're also addressing motive as much as the behavior. High tourist places will be areas of frequent pedestrian activity. But I've yet to see a white person, tourist or not, deliberately stroll down the road because he's enjoying the fact that he's in someone's way. Tourists may walk slowly, but it's not to piss other drivers off. It's because they're tourists.

The same hysterical excuse-makers object whenever the subject of the Bell Curve comes up. It's amazing that they refuse to acknowledge when we discuss the AVERAGE behavior of a group of people, like AVERAGE intelligence or school test scores. Are there intelligent, considerate blacks who don't blame everyone else for their own dysfunction? Sure. But just because I've seen performing elephants in a circus doesn't mean all elephants can dance and juggle.

BTW...in our county, parents are aware of young blacks walking in the roadways, since some of them use it as a way to stop cars for other reasons, to rob them or to take their chances on the Ghetto Lottery (which is a HUGE business in the Atlanta area). So we teach our new teenage drivers (especially girls) to not stop for them for any reason. If they attempt to block your car, you can't get around them, and you're only options are to stop or to run them over, then run them over. You can stop at the nearest safely lit area and call the police. (Personally, I don't want to risk them being that close to my van, which is why I never leave home without a Glock under my shirt.)

These fools want to walk around in the middle of the road? They do so at their own risk. Despite what they may believe, pedestrians aren't ALWAYS right, as in the case of that black female actress from "Bring It On" a few years ago who was struck and killed one night about five miles from here. She was in the middle of the road, got hit, and died at the scene. The driver was never charged.

Me and my friends used to do it too when we were young. I think it was a rebellion thing.

Black youths DO walk slowly down the street or parking lots. I think they think we owe them EVERYTHING and until we "pay up" they will harass white people...

run 'em over!

One long truck was just finishing up gassing up his truck and it was hot out(last year)

So I lean back as I can tell he is wasting time and he purposefully looks back in his rear view mirror dancing in his driver seat.

So I move up closer to him and he refuses to budge then he pretend to get out as if he was going to try and intimidate me.

Then he keeps a foot out and he turns up the radio looking at me trying to get me mad. Again I just park and pretend to nod off.

Later I found out he was arrested for very serious aggressive driving that got into a fight. tv news says he will be in jail for 7 years.

He looked like a balding black man in his 50's wearing a fishing cap.

I just wonder why they take so long to leave parking spaces? In my 25 plus years of observance they take their sweet time leaving their parking spot even when they know your waiting. Asians drive out in less than a minute and other races dont take their time. Can an aa wxplain why they do that?

This is true and you just need to use the fact to advantage in a large lot. Don't wait for blacks if there is an Asian heading to a car.
