i saw a $2500 espresso maker at william-sonoma. that got me thinking...

what in the hell does coffee from a 25-hundred-dollar coffee maker taste like?

did you ever pay way too much for something just because you had to have the best??

what was it?

When the Jeep Commander came out I bought the first one sold from Fair Oaks Dodge.
Got rid of it 6 months later.

Sur la Table is the same way. All the appliances there that you could find an equivalent at Wal Mart for $50 cost over $1000. There is no reason to buy these appliances other than to say you spent over $1000 on a coffee maker or toaster oven.

Wise choice. Chrysler products usually fall apart after 60k miles.

I paid a few hundred bucks for a Cuisinart coffee maker once. The thing was all metal and got hotter than shit, so I was always burning myself trying to pour coffee. To top it off, it crapped out after about a year. Now I buy only cheap-ass coffee makers from Target or Wal-Mart, which last just as long, if not longer.

There are different grades of coffee makers. But just as critical as the coffee maker is the person that's making the coffee. If you can't make espresso right or use subpar product, you might as well drink from somebody's sphincter.

IMO, coffee made in a $2,500 maker, no matter what,

should be one fucking orgasmic cup o' joe.

eesh is now searching for an image of a woman drinking a cup of coffee

Why would you spend $2,500 on something that makes a liquid that you're going to piss out in 30 minutes? What a joke. It's the same with watches. Whether your watch costs $35 or $3,000, guess what....it's still fucking 2:15.

And I firmly agree with eesh's statement about Chrysler products. Pieces of shit.

I have a Rolex Datejust:

It's a watch I would =never= buy (and rarely wear). However, I gave $5000 to a niece for "survival money" while she was in-country and, while visiting her folks afew months later, her father handed me two watches and asked "Which would you like?"

Voila!

I think this came up in a past thread.

Why, when most of us carry a cell phone all the time, do we

need a watch? Unless, of course, you want to show off yet another

of your expensive toys. People who wear expensive watches are probably

BMW owners.

You mean a fancy pocketwatch, which is what a cellphone is when you use it to replace your wristwatch. Wrist watches put poket watches out of favor long ago. Even with a cellphone I almost always wear a real watch.

History lesson for the two of you, a Jeep Cherokee isn't really a Chrysler product. It was designed and engineered by American Motors before Chrysler took over that company. So while it carries a Chrysler name, a Jeep Cherokee is reliable and long lasting because it's wasn't designed by Chrysler.

Oh, yeah, American Motors was a paragon of auto engineering. They made what was possibly the ugliest and shittiest car anyone has ever made since the Model T:

At least it didn't explode like the Ford Pinto.

Jeeps were actually dessigned and built by Willys back around WWII, which then sold out to AMC: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep#The_Jeep_marque

So the design predates AMC, which is why is doesn't suck. The amazing thing is that it outlasted even the VW Beetle.

Hawk of Tom,

First of all, the Jeep Cherokee doesn't have any design influences from the original jeep produced during WWII. If you were talking about the CJ, then yes, that is a descendant of the military vehicle.

Second, American Motors made some flunky looking cars, but were consistently better quality than the rest of American cars in that time period.

My uncle used to like the Dodge "Power Wagon" pickup trucks back in the 70s. I've never cared for them myself.

But Jeeps have always been cool.

The beetle predates the jeep by three years and they never stopped production of it worldwide.

One thing you have seen in a lot of Jeeps (and this may date back to the WWII era) is the use of hex bolts in a lot of the assembly.

Like I said...horrible car.

All the American "economy" cars of the 70s were garbage, they were heavy and underpowered so they didn't really save much on gas, but they gave up style, safety, comfort, and performance for almost no good return.

Ford Pinto (explodes and burns you alive in a rear-end collision)
Ford Maverick
Chevy Chevette (my family had one, we called it the "Shove It")
Chevy Vega

I don't know what Chrysler had back then. But two of the biggest pieces of shit, and by far the ugliest, were the AMC Pacer and AMC Gremlin.

That's why Honda and the other Japanese companies got a good start in the US.

I used a freestyle machine at 5 Guys last night. I just got a rootbeer so I could compare it to a taste I was familiar with already. It had more of a potent flavor than regular cans or bottles but in a good way. I'll have to try lemon coke next time.
