I got a new cane toaday! How wicked is this cane?? It's one-of-a kind. I thought about getting a shillelagh, but this was too cool to pass up.

House uses his cane on the wrong side. His right leg is the bad one. He should be using the can on his left side, to offset. Canes are meant to be used for balance. He's a doctor. He should know that.

Not necessarily. If your right leg can't support you fully or hurts when you walk on it, then using the cane in tandem with your right leg relieves the pressure on your bum leg.
If he used it on the left side, he'd have to put full weight on his right leg, which is the painful one.
SOURCE: I hurt my leg once and had to use a cane in this manner.

maybe, if you have permanent damage to your leg. But my physical rapist always stressed that I should use the cane on the opposite side---she was trying to get me to put equal weight on both legs so I wouldn't develop a limp or an abnormal gait while recovering. But I have both an abnormal gait and arthritis now, so maybe that doesn't matter anymore. Maybe House is right.

Sometimes it's used for balance, sometimes for support. My leg injury wouldn't have healed if I'd kept walking on it normally, so the cane acted as a fourth leg that worked with my bum right leg for me.

Doesn't look very sturdy, you're better off getting a hiking staff and cutting a few inches off the bottom to suit. Sturdy, stable and strong, looks cool too.
I have similar cane. I too like the look but get nervous about its sturdiness. I don't need too use cane often. Just in crowded situations were I know folks will walk right over me if I don't have some means of showing I'm a slow walker. Got nerve damage in both legs so don't walk too fast. I'm Bat Masterson

If you paid more then 3 bucks for that stick you got ripped off. Your better off going into the woods, finding a choke-cherry tree, cutting off a thin branch and improvising one. That looks kinds dangerous, specially if you apply weight to the modified handle. It's OK to carry and beat dogs away with, but that's it.
