Obama was born in the USA in Hawaii.

The reason he has stonewalled on releasing the actual certificate may be for a number of reasons-

1) There is something on the certificate out of his control that may be embarassing, ie the father listed his religion as "Muslim", which makes him an apostate in the eyes of some, or that a disrepancy in the names or info on mother or father exist. These would be out of Obamas control but he mmay have feared they would have been fodder for doubters in the 2008 elction.

2) By delaying the release of the BC, Obama allows fringers to embarrass themselves with wild theories and sometimes racially biased allegations, helping Pbama to retain sympathy with minority voters.

3) Obama is trying to mesh and confuse the issues of the birth certificate and his college records. I think the dud is in the birth certificate but the potential bombshell is in his college records. I think if the college recordsd were released they may indicate-


a) That OBama benefitted from affirmative action.

b) That Obama was not a great student.

c) That Obamas writings, thesis etc may show a picture of someone much more
radical than mainstream America woould choose to elect.

d) That Obama may have received financial tuition help from someone questionable.

I see the art of political diversion and distraction at work. Give up on the stupid birth certificate and look for his college records.

Does your birth certificate or certificate of live birth list your religion. And mother and father info are listed on his perfectly legal for all purposes certificate of live birth which were taken from Hawaii official records. So no discrepancies (beyond a typo) probably exist.

He has said he got scholarships and other help. He went to two Ivy League schools, became head of the Harvard Law Review (entirely based on merit, not race). If he went to school based upon affirmative action, he became the president of the United States - so the program works.

George W Bush went to Yale as a legacy. How is THAT different?

Since other documentation that has been released/revealed unambiguously proves his citizenship at birth, I don't care about any other proof.

W.r.t. schooling 20 years ago I =really= could not care less; we move on in life after school - he's 50 years old - it's more important by far what he's done with his life recently than what happened back then. (for example, what =I= did as an undergraduate became totally irrelevant as soon as I got a graduate degree - same thing for him).

I say you are the closest with 2. Releasing it gets him nothing, holding it back is providing a great benefit to him. The school stuff: He was smart and accomplished in college and his grades will show it. Thesis paper view points? Who cares, it was college, have you ready any of your old college papers, do you even remember what the topics were? I am sure he was like every other student and was tailoring his work to match what the professor wanted to hear, not his own views. Ramblings of 20 year old are irrelevant. Affirmative action? Maybe, and why not? Harvard is expensive and hard to get into, every bit helps, and I am sure he is a pretty big proponent of AA so why hide it. Finally, he admitted smoking pot and doing coke in college, pretty damaging stuff right there, why hide the little stuff.

Like I said I believe Obama was born in the USA.

I am more interested in his schools records, they show what kind of student he was. He may have been a worse student than fellow Ivy Leaguers George W Bush or John Kerry. As long as Obama conceals these records, we'll never know.

No one with any brains thinks there was a grand conspiracy from 1961 to make Obama president, though it is highly plausible he received an affirmative action nod or help from someone in the leftist circles he and his family ran.

Just reported. White House has released Obama's long form birth certificate.

I think he used something questionable on his birth certificate later in life when he applied for college. He gamed the system by getting preferential acceptance or some other financial aid/scholarship package. That is why he wont release either his school records or his birth cert. Hell I lost track of mine for the most part of 20 years. I had to get a copy to renew my passport. The county sent me a laminated business card size certificate of birth. just in the last few years my sister found my original stored with some of her old stuff.

Anyway he should have just released it with no news conference treating it as no big deal. nothing will ever appease the die hard birthers and this will only fuel the conspiracy. Hopefully they will be marginalized with the media dropping it as an issue.

I'm not a birther but after seeing this I'm asking wtf. If someone scans a document to a PDF file, it shouldn't have layers.

If they are faking a document they should AT LEAST take the basic step of screen-capping the final product or exporting it to a single flat layer. This release was supposed to put the issue to rest but when the doc itself is suspect that isn't good at all.

Your theory is interesting, I never heard the moslem birth theory but it is not beyond reason and could/maybe be a sound argument. The affirmative action college theory is very strong. I think he in fact benefitted, which is not bad in itself being a common thing. I mean I'm sure the Kennedys and alot of financially well off Presidents in the past got alot of help getting into prestigious schools.

Folks can say what they want, but I think WingNut did a good job of laying it all out for discussion. There can only be so many reasons for why the President has constantly refused to release his Birth Certificate, so take your pick.

Agreed. If they were layers, there wouldn't be negative impressions on the underlying pattern if you "removed" the top layer.

You didn't answer the question. How many times did MSNBC, CNN, etc run stories on birthers. It is a good way to marginalize his opposition by painting them all with the same wide brush stroke. I think you are correct - as my memory seems to indicate that, but unfortunately (perhaps fortunately?) I never really paid much attention to Hillary.

Personally I think that Reps are losing credibility by harping on this issue and his education. Neither are relevant now.

The Reps need to say 'Obama didn't fulfill campaign promise 1, 2, 3, he's ineffective, *I* (Rep candidate B) will close gitmo and provide realistic solutions to the problems we face (such as healthcare, taxes, etc).'

When did you ask that question? As to your question, how many times? I don't know, let's say 100.

You are attempting to set up a damned if you do damned if you don't situation. Again, however many times other media outlets put forth birther stories, I'm almost positive that the conservative media had more.
