DC101 makes my ears bleed

Which bands/songs are you tired of hearing on DC101? The easy answer would be "all of them" but let's be a little more specific...

Right now, I'm sick of hearing:

- Rise Against
- Mumford & Sons
- Silversun Pickups
- Muse

Aren't there any good FM rock stations that don't play the same top 20 crap on repeat all day long?

I think 98 Rock out of Baltimore is the best you're going to do in this area. Before I got XM about 2 years ago I started listening to 105.9, and they seemed to be doing OK even though they played a little too much alternative stuff, as well as too much of The Who. Honestly, since I've had XM, I don't know that I can ever do without it. I don't know that I'd ever wish regular radio stations on anyone.

Oh yeah, Roche on DC101 is so gay for Pearl Jam it's not even funny. If the band has a restraining order out on that guy, it wouldn't suprize at all. Black guys who try that hard to be white give me the willies. Plus, when he sings along with songs on the radio it really gets on my nerves.

FM radio has about 20 songs total that they play all day long in between 30 minutes worth of commercials every hour. That's why it SUCKS and it's becoming a zombie medium.

last time I had to listen to DC101, they were still playing Eve6 and Lit every hour. That station is stuck in 1999. Late 90's butt-rock galore. Do they still play Flounder's Mash-Ups, or whatever that was called, on Sunday nights?

Yes, although I never got into the whole mash-up thing, but it's still on Saturday nights.

I agree about 98 Rock, that is pretty much the best you can do for radio around here, they play a mix of old and new instead of being just a "classic" rock station. And they carry Dee Snyder's cheesy House of Hair show on Saturday nights, which is sometimes awful but once in a while plays some cool obscure metal song.

During the work day 98 Rock plays all the corporate usual crap just like all the rest, though.

And of course the stupid morning shows stopped being cool like 10 years ago, I hate them all. I'm so glad Howard Stern went to satellite so I don't ever have to hear his voice again.

DC101 is the reason I switched to XMradio. Once WHFS left and went illegal music, DC radio just went downhill. They should just add "DC oldies" station to their commercials. Only play what the corporate idiots want them to play. And Elliot isn't funny. Why do they allow dance track mixes with that Flounder crap on a rock station? Flounder is more annoying than Elliot.

Most of the time when I tune in to 98 Rock the reception is shitty :-(

Jesus yes, I'd rather listen to marbles in a garbage disposal than Flounder. That fat fuck does nothing but bring the show to a grinding halt. As soon as he comes on, I'm off to another channel.

I feel your pain. However, it seems that the last 2 brand new cars I bought get much better reception than the stock radios in older cars, so when I did actually listen to radio before I got XM 98 Rock was pretty clear. You pretty much don't stand a chance at getting 98 Rock on a home/office stereo, you've gotta be in a car unfortunately.

Getting a clear signal from the Baltimore stations really depends on where you are in the DC area. For some odd reason, when I am up near the Legion Bridge 98 Rock starts to drop off, even though it's like 20 miles closer to Baltimore than where I actually live.

I'm surprised so many people listen to:

Puddle of Mudd
Hinder
Seether
Nickelback
Pearl Jam
Creed

That's all I ever hear on this shit station. Sirius-XM's Alt Nation is the way to go. Though even they sometimes suck. They've been jizzing to the Beastie Boys' new album, which frankly isn't rock, so i'm not sure why they're playing it. And every 8th song is some Green Day or Queens of the Stone Age shit.

If I hear Mumford and Sons again I'm going to drive into oncoming traffic.

Also, Elliot is unlistenable.

Haven't listened to music on terrestrial radio in about 10 years, but Sirius can't be much better. I mostly listen to Stern but sometimes listen to Sirius's Lithium channel (90's grunge & alt-rock). It's the same stuff over and over. Listen for 1/2 hour a day, and after a few months you'll realize they probably only have 300-400 songs on their playlist. I don't need to hear "Black Hole Sun" on a daily basis (and I love Soundgarden). And no one wants to hear The Offspring every 2 hours. I've started flipping to other channels, but half the time it's crap. Their Punk 29 channel was excellent, and of course they took it off the air, then switched to a 24 hour-a-day AC/DC station. Fucking lame. Anyone who wants to listen to AC/DC all day long already owns their albums.

I have always wondered, if they have a segment called "90's @ noon", what do they call all of the other 90's crap they play for the rest of the day? There has been a whole decade of music since then. If I hear Lightning crashes or (any other song by the band Live) for that matter, I'm going to chew off my own ears.

LOL. That song sucks ass. I had one college buddy who would play that over and over. I wanted to take that boombox and throw it out the window.

Is it possible to take everyone who has ever done that "world beat" shit, stick them into a large bus and have them die in a fiery crash?

Yeah, and Patti Labelle and Hall and Oats... I was always embarrassed by the Philly music scene, the ones who were successful always seemed to be the ones who sucked. The really good Philly musicians like Stanley Clarke are in genres of music other than pop.

I used to like John Eddie and the Front Street Runners, though, just because they had a cool local reference in their band's name.

John Eddie sounds real familiar but I don't remember anything by him.

Another lame one-hit-wonder Philly act: Tommy Conwell & the Young Rumblers. They were some stupid roots-rock bar band, back when people thought shit like John Cafferty was "cool". Ugh.
