I dont mind a quick and quite call by my fellow gym-goers while working out but to the folks that feel they have to have half hour conversations in loud voices - F$ck you!

put on your headphones and go hard. Don't let some yuppie douche take away your focus.

Drop a plate near their feet, that'll get them looking and thinking.

I love my Jammer ! Of course I only use my cell phone jammer on indian reservations because using them anywhere else in the US is a violation of fcc rules.
It will block signal 10 to 15 meters away, it's so much fun!

lol it only annoys me when I can hear it over my earphones and I mean some people are really loud. Monday the guy was 20 feet away behind me - I just chucked my towel at him and didnt turn around. At the end of my workout I saw my towel right in front of his treadmill - must have almost got him.

Life is short so I try to ignore but when it busts my workout vibe I get pissed. I try to use that to work harder so there is an upside. Next time Ill see if I can walk by and 'trip' on his machines powercord - oops...

you could always do the loud grunt right next to him or her until they either leave or say something to you.

I'm talking to friends at the gym half the time anyways, so noise doesn't bother me. Tonight was the best, I had a squealing treadmill that sounded like I could smoke it if I ran it long enough lol.

If some ass-clown is parked on a bench/machine that I'm waiting to use and they're using it to rest and talk on their cellphone, I don't think twice about being rude and interrupting them. It's a gym, not Starbucks. You're not at home, so you need to be aware that other people use the facility as well. Same for clucky soccer-moms that yap side-by-side on the treadmill for the whole gym to hear while I'm trying to focus on getting a descent cardio workout in. Go home and call eachother, and you can talk at the top of your lungs all you want. These twits sure as hell aren't getting any work done at the gym while they squawk to eachother.

You go to Lifetime in Fairfax too...

I actually do not mind people yapping outloud so long as they are talking to a real live person in the room with them (dont know why that is different for me). I think the difference is that if you give them a look at least one of them is likely to notice and quiet down - a jackass on the phone just doesnt give a damn...

Obnoxious douchebags have no limit to their douchebagdom. There are a lot of suckfaces at the gym doing something other than working out, doing a real good job of fucking up everybodys workout.
I saw some horrific cunt sitting at the leg press for a half hour, just talking on the phone. A male douche using an exercise bench for storing his phone, I-pod, notebook and protein drink.Want to use a Stairmaster? Sorry, some twat is doing level 2 , talking non stop, and reading People Magazine.
Cell phones are just another tool for the douche to douche .

My gym has a "only cell phones in the lobby policy." I could care less if somebody wants to talk on their cell phone I have my headphones on most of the time.

It is nice to hear some of the hot girls conversations, when they say "picking up the kids" it helps to eliminate them.

I've never understood the need to talk incessantly on the phone or have a 3 hour social circle jerk when at the gym. For me, it's the only 1 1/2 hours a day that I can just decompress and tune the world out for a little bit. My personal oasis in the daily rat race.

Stick to working out and not give a fuck what other people are doing. Get some headphones if you can't stand people talking.

Same here. I keep my phone in my car when I get to the gym.

That must be a seriously loud conversation then.

The only thing that ever annoyed me at the gym was when I was just about ready to use a bar or machine, and someone else got to it right before I did. Of course it wasn't their fault, it's not as if they knew I wanted to use it, but it's still frustrating.

I was stalked at a gym in SoFl by some older dude harassing me one time, but that was probably the worst experience. No matter where I am, the Bahamas, or here, I've usually run into cool folks, and I never fail to come across someone willing to offer advice or help, even if I haven't asked for it.

I go to FFX Station, Golds.

If I'm having a really good run on the treadmill, I like to be able to focus on what I'm doing and not have to listen to 2 airheads that have to catch up on gossip at the top of their lungs because they haven't seen eachother since yesterday.

I would wear my headphones, but when I get going at a good clip the cord starts flapping around and they keep falling out. The regular noise of the gym doesn't bother me, just people talking at the top of their lungs when they're right next to me. In my opinion, if you're at the gym to strictly be social, you're there for the wrong reason.

I saw some chick in a full run the other day talking on her phone. Not via Bluetooth, but with the phone up to her ear. How the hell can you carry on a conversation like that?

I have no problem at all asking people to move their shit off a bench if they're not using it and it's the only one left. So far no one has been a douche about it.

My other peeve is when people alternate between 2 pieces of equipment at the same time. I have no problem getting on one of the machines when they're on the other one. So far all I've gotten is a coupe of dirty looks. No words exchanged.

But cell phones and "team treadmilling" - GTFO of the gym.

It's difficult as hell when someone is talking to me and yet I'm straining to push myself running, or rucking. I try my best to carry on a convo between huffing and puffing, but it can be a real bitch sometimes.

how about people that leave stuff (usually towels) at machines in order to "hold" them. or people running around with gallon jugs and notebooks (usually guys). people who read books/magazines etc on exercise bikes/treadmills aren't exercising either! wtf!

If the two pieces are close, I don't mind that so much. It's when they take up a bench to do presses and then run all the away over to the other end of they gym to do deadlifts at the squat rack that it becomes a problem.

If someone is talking loudly on their phone I just watch and listen intently. Sometimes I'll even comment as if they are talking to me and expect an answer. If they complain, I just shrug and say, if you wanted privacy you shouldn't be talking so loudly out in the middle of the gym/restaurant/etc. Go outside or to some quiet corner of the room.

It usually works. Not always, but usually.

In some gyms they talk loud cause the place has the music in the background on so loud, that in addition to acceptable background static give the person on the phone the auditory illusion that the person on the other end can't hear them. Also they might think they have to talk loud to overcome this effect. Of course, that would not apply in a relative quiet area. Sometimes, people talk loud due to their hearing limitations, but that might be rare.

it's arrogant whereever anyone talks on the phone loudly around other people.
If i feel i must take a call, i go move over to the side of the room.

I hate listening to people talked loudly about their private affairs. It's so fucking annoying.

Teri, you always have the right thing to say. Like this forum was created just for you, you silly girl. You, DD and the girl who removes/waxes unwanted hairs should pool your resources and open a penis hair away boutique. She's the girl pictured in the other post, hope you don't get lost. Such an angel.
