Virginia still has hillbillies, who knew?

STAUNTON — New evidence in the case of Kim Crilley, a 48-year-old Mount Solon woman accused of having sex with a 14-year-old boy who was later shot by her husband, suggests the boy ran away from home in December and was living inside a hunting cabin adjacent to Crilley’s property at 449 Lookout Mountain Road, according to an affidavit to a search warrant filed Thursday morning in Augusta County Circuit Court.

Crilley is being held at Middle River Regional Jail in Verona on a felony charge of carnal knowledge and three misdemeanor charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The boy, who turned 15 on Feb. 2, was released from the hospital Wednesday after receiving treatment for a gunshot wound to his leg. He is being held at the Shenandoah Valley Juvenile Detention Center on charges of burglary, petty larceny and destruction of property in relation to the probe into the hunting cabin. He’s also charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony in connection with a Jan. 13 incident at Crilley’s home, where the teen was shot by Philip Crilley.

The Augusta County Sheriff's Office said there is a possibility that additional charges could be filed against Kim Crilley.

I'll say one thing. Id rather be around hillbillies than rednecks any day. Hillbillies have a decent amount of innocense in them. Plus , they're actually more accepting of outsiders than rednecks are. They'll just pick up a banjo or a fiddle and serenade you and make a pot of stew.

Lol. I have an old college friend who lives in Staunton. I'll have to ask him about this. The 81 corridor is full of hillbillies.

Yes, they have plenty of hillbillies out that way. I wouldn't want to break down in my car out that way in the middle of the night.

Most of the folks I've met out on I-81 were really cool, and helpful. One of our cars became stuck on a mountain road years ago during a snowstorm, and a family came down the hill and towed it out without any hesitation. I've met some cool people out there too. Yeah, you do have some hicks/hillbillies here and there, but it's not as bad as South Carolina for instance, which is full of them.

It was interesting too see. I haven't seen a redneck in these parts in years

There used to be a nice general store type of shop out in Sperryville that sold all kinds of cast black folk. As a white person walking through the store, I'd often slowly shake my head at what they had ... knowing that the next day I had to return to work in corporate america with all their political correctness bullshit.

That's right. The hillbillies are great people to sit on the porch with (next to the expired washer and dryer) and just chat with.

Yeah, Charleston SC sure is full of inbred hicks and hillbilles. Dont forget Clemson and Charleston College too. There just ain' no culture there. Everyone knows that you have to go to Bucks County, PA to find true cultured people. I mean, golly gee.

I've loved my trips to Charleston, SC. I've really never encountered any hicks down that way. Odd, but true. Mostly, genuine people. Even the black people seem very respectful - unlike many around this area. I'd go to Charleston to live in a heart beat.

It's also funny you've mentioned Bucks County. I've had family that has moved out of that area. Ah, the area of covered bridges and country roads without shoulders. Actually, since Bucks County is only about 40 minutes away from Princeton, NJ, it's very hard to find hicks up there. Just a lot of commuters - who make good amounts of money and drive over to Jersey to work or take the train to N.Y.

All hillbillies/Rednecks come from all over, just not in Virginia. Take my co-worker for example, he is a true hillbilly. Won't say where he is from, but I have to work that darn Redneck/Hillbilly everyday M-F. Can't wait to the end of the day comes so I don't have to put up with the hillbilly nonsense. He talks about how his parents and his relatives will sit out on their porches playing their banjos and have that silly toothless smiles, hootin and hollerin and if you call it dancing their foot stomping too.

Bucks County, PA isn't hillbilly. Bucks county is the outer burbs of Philly, and would be considered "city" by the rest of the state. If you're looking for some serious PA redneck action, drive an hour north or west, you'll get more than you bargained for. The central part of PA and the coal regions are where you'll find the real hicks, not in the Philly burbs like Bucks Co.

Depends. If he's fixing his truck because money's tight and he's looking to save a few bucks, no, it's not dumb.

On the other hand, if he's fixing his truck because he dropped the tranny from doing too many neutral-drops in front of the Dairy Queen, yeah, it's dumb.

The biggest "hick" I've ever met was from NYC. He was part of my party
crowd years ago when I lived in DC. One weekend at my suggestion we
took off to party with a friend of mine who lived near Ft. Ritchie, Md.
We took off bar hopping and he brought his NYC attitude with him.
In that neck of the woods you do not shout at a waitress or barmaid,
"Hey! Over here!" across the room and expect faster service. Later
that night we went to a VFW post over the line in Pa. He wasn't a
vet or a member but I was. The guy had never been in a private club
before, especially where they have under the table gambling devices.
He reached across the bar and without asking, picked up a colorful
"punchboard" and started punching the rolls out. I nearly had a stroke
when I realized what he was doing but first, you have to ask the bartender
and then pay $1 for each punch in advance. He'd already knocked out five of
them before I stopped him but it was too late. The bartender also saw what
he was doing and exploded in a rage, throwing all four of us out and
said we were barred permanently. We then went to a nightclub that was
popular with our age group and I had warned him that a lot of the single
ladies there were only waiting for their husbands/boyfriends to get
off work from the night shift at Mack Truck. He didn't pay attention.
He asked a girl to dance and was having a good time. (buying her lots
of drinks too) Then at 11:15PM about two dozen Mack Truckers came into
the club and met up with their wives/girlfriends and of course the
NYC feller was very angry when his intended target ditched him in a
(pardon the expression) New York Minute.

The next morning on the way back to DC all he did was bitch about what a
bunch of hicks live around Ft. Ritchie. Good thing we didn't take him hunting.:)

Back in the early 90's I was living in a group house and across the street a family of Hillbillies rented a house. There were four of them, and seven or eight old cars and trucks. One in the family was named "Pearly." Every Saturday night several of Pearly's friends would come on by and they would spend hours drinking cheap beer and working on the trucks until way after midnight.

Well, one day Pearly came home with a brand new "pick'em up truck." He said he got rid of the old trucks in the yard, and bought him a new truck. I was happy for Pearly, and thought the Saturday night auto shop clinics were now over.

The next Saturday night, the hillbillies all came over, and there was Pearly, with a smile on his face and a wrench in his hand, climbing under his shiny new truck, too fix it.

Three month's later, Pearly's new truck went missing, and Pearly said that the bank had made a mistake, and it wasn't his fault. Then, new arrivals of 15 year old trucks started showing up in Pearly's driveway. I had never seen Pearly and his friends so happy each Saturday night going forward.

How immature are you? Really? Yes we have some good southern people here in this part of Virginia some on the more country side but atleast we aren't snobby cold city people as you may be. I know this family and even though the mother made a poor choice, that does not make the family hillbillies. They are all well educated kind people. Maybe you should take some pointers from them on being polite.

"Southern" people arent necessarily hillbilles. I enountered quite a few northern hillbillies when I was in parts of New York State and Penn.

Wow OK you obviously didn't get my point... these people are not hillbillies and yes I understand that
hillbillies are not simply 'southern folk' there are numerous sorts of hillbillies, but this family portrays none of the characteristics of hillbies. It might be in your favor to not make harsh judgements on people especially if you know nothing about them.

Hillbillies give a shit, most of them are proud of their lifestyle and heritage.
