PC names of Holidays-No more Halloween?

In public school here I heard complaints about Halloween, Thanksgiving, the C word, etc. May Day used to be a celebration in schools but we now have Cinqo de Mayo.

Anne Arundel County Council Votes On Uniform Halloween Name
10-17-2007 9:56 AM

(Annapolis, MD) -- The Anne Arundel County Council has passed a resolution calling for a uniform celebration and name for "Halloween" in county public schools. The "Washington Post" reports the vote comes after some schools began calling the holiday "Harvest Day" or "Orange and Black Day". Council member Edward Middlesbrook says, "this political correctness thing has gone too far". The non-binding resolution brought laughter at the council meeting Monday night, but still passed unanimously.

There is a church near the corner of 123 and Zion with a sign advertising a Harvest Festival.

Does anyone else have neighbors who are always out on Halloween? We thought that it was strange that certain families were never home until we learned that they don't let their children read Harry Potter books and told us that Halloween is a pagan celebration. I am not going to criticize their beliefs and figure that going out that evening is a lot better than just not answering the door like some people.

It's crazy isn't it? It is clear that due to the fact that we live in such a litigious society, everyone is taking precautions so as to NOT OFFEND anyone.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I say

HAPPY HALLOWEEN
and
MERRY CHRISTMAS
and
One Nation, UNDER GOD

Have a great day!

My wife used to teach toddler and pre-school activity classes at Wakefield/Audrey Moore and South Run rec centers. She often included a craft project and one April she was making rabbits out of paper plates. Several children got excited about working on their 'Easter bunnies', but more than one mother came up to her demanding that she find another project. My wife asked why they objected to 'spring rabbits' which caused them to back down, but it was still very uncomfortable.

It seems that even though as a society we are continuing to progress (baby steps as they may be) with civil rights, we seem to be taking those same small steps backwards when it comes to being civil!

All this PC is fucking annoying.

I dont understand whats so fucking wrong with Christmas when they cant think of any other names for Ramadan, but its not like you cant celebrate it in school or whatever.

People dont seem to understand that schools and such are probably not ignoring their precious fucking religion, just going with the majority. Isnt that how most of the world works anyways? Going by majority? Come on people...

I dont get offended when I see someone wearing a sari, hijab, burga, etc. Some of that is culture, but at the same time, most of those "cultures" are like that because of religion!

Leave my god damn christmas tree, christmas lights, Halloween decorations, etc etc etc alone dammit!

It is against the law to walk around in a mask...how do the Muslims get away with it?

Exactly - that is one of the rights that this country was founded on. That is also why sometimes I get confused myself.

What gives one group the idea that they can FORCE their beliefs and opionions on others? Is it pure arrogance, or do they NOT understand that they can CHOOSE to believe in and celebrate ANYTHING they want WITHOUT asking others to sacrifice?

The labels are becoming confusing. I don't know if it's the "far right" or the "far left" promulgating this idiotic political correctness.

I am fearful that the basic tenets of USA society and culture are being destroyed by our misguided efforts to promote so-called "diversity." In attempting to appease the far left or the far right, we are essentially eroding our original melting pot concept of one America, one people.

Accepting and attempting to integrate "diversity" is stupid. Let's be truthful: many subcultures simply are not as good as the standard American culture. There's no shame is saying and believing that standard American culture is "best."

I am not a racist. I believe that the work place should include all, according to their talents and aspirations--without any prejudice. Keep religion in the mosques, temples, churches, etc. Keep the politics and extremism out.

Thank you for the nice compliment.
But, seriously, whom can I vote for that believes like I do? I feel like I'm the only one who really understands. No hubris intended.
