What do you think Cary? Make a couple of pennies off of the people to dumb to take the 30 seconds it takes to register?

Tempting, but nah.
This isn't a commercial enterprise.

Before I would ever consider ads here the site would have to be much bigger. And even then it would only be very small text ads rented out to local businesses, and only if there was some incentive for clicking on the ad like a coupon.

Traditional internet advertising like banners or Google AdWords? never.
Text ads? Maybe after there are 1,000+ regular posters or something and I actually have costs to recover.

In the interest of maintaining a clean look on the site, I'm only using subliminal advertising, including "green" non-detectable cookies permanently stored in your registry for maximum energy efficiency.

Also, as promised, I only accept local advertising: the Fairfax County Police Department, and the local branch of Homeland Security.

I've been advised that all those who engage in perfectly legal activities on the site have nothing to worry about, much in the way safe, cautious drivers have nothing to fear from Officer Friendly. That includes PMs of course, and all data stored on or transmitted from your computer. I can assure you, all that information will be kept strictly confidential, and will be completely secure and inaccessible save for those with the proper security clearances, and Gravis, whom I've hired to help make the site "hacker-proof."

I am always looking to improve the site, and welcome any suggestions you might have, lol.

Wow, what an old thread. I still have (virtually) no costs to recover, although the amount of time I spend dealing with legal threats has increased exponentially.

I still see no purpose for ads on this site. The small amount of capital I would gain would be far surpassed by the inconvenience to users.

"Defamation of Character" - from people on an anonymous internet message board. Good luck making that stick.

My guess is that the threats are from people trying to get their names removed from the Arrest/Ticket search.

I would be very surprised if Philip Leiser, Esq., had not been in touch.

Oh, I've noted it, all right. I've also noted that thread comes up *first* in Google when you search "Philip Leiser" (or "Phillip Leiser, for that matter).

Poetic justice, indeed.

I've noted too that http://www.lawyerratingz.com/ShowRatings.jsp?tcvid=19574 folded and deleted Donna Fell's post(s) on Leiser's page.

I give you major props for hanging tough on the issue.
