You must feel awfully lucky. Actually, 2 wheel drive cars are not the problem. The problem is when they're rear-wheel-drive cars and it's harder for them to get traction because the weight of the engine is not holding the front wheels down to the ground to get traction.

As far as vehicles that have $600+ tires, yeah, you're right. Those are ideally tires that are made for traction on pavement, not in or on mud and snow. Plus, since they're not a touring tire or a M&S tire, they have a horrible wear warranty (e.g. 30,000 miles) and then it's time for a new set.

Ironically it is not the price of tire, but type, Study what type of tire does well in extreme conditons, all tires are not the same. Also vehicle weight distribution, center of gravity, etc. have a bearing. You can't be driving a summer car, Firebird, corvett etc. in that type of conditions, unless your very good.

Well good for you, tireboy. Maybe you should buy everyone else some nice sets of tires out of your own pocket and then you can brag about solving all the traffic problems.

Rear wheel drive cars can do well in snow. Just look at the police Crown Victorias, I don't see them parking on the side of the road or stuck up a hill. In Europe where it snows a lot longer and harder than here, all the RWD Mercedes and BMWs do just fine also.

Europeans deal with driving conditions like this every winter. They have mastered the skill, patience and knowledge to maneuver a vehicle through extreme weather conditions. What I witnessed yesterday was a panic resulting in a rout. Drivers abandoning vehicles and retreating in the face of an adversary. Reminded me of alot of the Civil war battles I've read about in history class.
