Trail Mix

I've taken to pulling just the M&Ms and types of nuts I like out of it. Oh, and fuck the raisins. Is that wrong of me?

I've never understood how M&Ms got into trail mix. Isn't trail mix supposed to be completely healthy? Why the candy in it then?

I don't mind eating it all together. You get the sweet and salty combo with the raisins and nuts. What I don't like are the brazil nuts in the mixed nut containers. They are nasty - look like ewok toes.

No, I believe "trail mix" isn't supposed to be healthy; it's supposed to maintain/restore energy - sugar is very good at that.

Maybe granola bars are supposed to be healthy.

I love raisins. I keep raisins and almonds in my desk at work and make my own little trail mix snack. Sometimes sunflower seeds too. I buy bags of trail mix occassionally, I like the stuff sold by the Barcelona Nut Company. I especially like the ones with dates in them. I hate the ones with M&Ms, and my least favorite trail mix item is the big pieces of dried apricot. yuk.

It is expensive, and I don't like some bits of a commercial mix either - you're right to make your own. I do that also. Though when I'm hiking I like to go usually super light. I'll usually carry an apple or two and a bottle of water. For hikes longer than 6 hours, I take a camelback spiked with two caffeine pills, sugar and salt and carry a bit of trail mix.

Water, two drops of dish soap concentrate...more water to rinse out. I have one of those little hangers that spreads the bladder open, hang it over a cupboard with the straw facing downwards for two days (nozzle bit goes in the dish washer) = clean.

Eesh you hike/climb? what do you carry for liquid?

LOL I haven't hiked in eight years since I was in Arizona, all I used was two canteens. I've never been crazy about Camelbaks, they just don't seem hygienic, especially in the tube part.
