If Virginia privatizes liquor sales does that mean that all the nice ABC folks are going to lose their easy-gravy do almost nothing jobs? Maybe they will keep at least some of them to distribute the booze to retail outlets. It makes me sad when I hear about dedicated civil servants like me losing their jobs.

well thats what happens when you get paid $80k/year whilst sitting at a desk doing nothing and the company realizes it's a waste of money and says wtf!!!! we dont need them anymore. and yes, they do put a huge emphasis on the wtf

Yeah, it sucks for the employees, especially if the area the ABC store is located in doesn't have many employment opportunities around. I would imagine a lot of them would try to get jobs at the newly opened liquor stores, but a mom and pop liquor store on the corner isn't going to have the benefits and pay that a state run store had.
It really sucks what the Governor is pushing.

Yeah, but considering someone is getting paid $80K a year to work as a cashier for an ABC store? WTF is that? Cashiers at Target probably get $16K a year if they're able to work 40 hours in a week.
Do the ABC store employees also receive a discount on the booze they buy for personal consumption?

Eesh, Now you know that isn't nice what you've said. I was just defending you earlier in the other thread where people were criticizing you. Do you want to play nice, or do you want to take this to another level ?? The choice is yours.

Hmmmm. This is a daunting choice. I'm going to go with: You're a fucking faggot that is so stupid you think cashiers at a state run liquor store make 80k a year.

Eesh, Now, I've got to tell you - you've really burned your bridges here. From here on out, you're on your own. You can't count on me for support.
Now, if anyone has any names of their local ABC store cashiers, we do have access to the Virginia State salary database - which will provide us with some numbers on their actual salaries. Maybe, they're not making $80K per year, but they're probably drinking that much up in booze. I'm assuming it's like working at a 7-11. If you're name is Apu and you'd like a little liquid for your thirst, you head over to the soda fountain and top off your Big Gulp cup. Umm ... Enjoy !!

I think we should keep the abc stores. Seems like privately run liquor stores are trashy.

I recall reading that the state made $11 profit off of each $13 in booze that was sold. Granted, that probably doesn't include rents, leases, salaries, etc. But, I'll agree with you in regards to privatizing liquor stores - they'll put up all kinds of tacky advertising in their windows just to draw in the drunks for cheaper booze.
Maryland is a good example of this kind of blight.

Don't you just love those little airline bottles of booze they sell ? You can keep like 37 of em in yer glovebox so that its like your glovebox is a portable emergency bar. ABC is so awesome , I hope they never change.
LMAO. $80k a year? A "cashier" at an ABC store can be a manager, assistant manager, acting manager, or part time sales associate. Probably 80% of ABC employees you see are part time. That is how the state does it. No benefits. Close to or right at 40 hours a week. And relative cost of living hourly pay, which in the highest area (NOVA) is $11 an hour. And no, ABC employees do not get a discount at all.
T2T did your fake ID get rejected at your local respectable ABC? Is that why you are so childish and naive?
In case you're looking for work, here's the current opening with VA ABC and the pay scale.
Sales Associate NOVA $11.95 /hour Northern Virginia
ABC Store Manager Assistant A $28,681.00 02/25/2011 Arlington
ABC Store Manager Assistant B $26,236.00 03/04/2011 Norfolk
Sales Associate State Wide $10.00 /hour Not Northern Virginia
I bet that $1.95 extra for sales associates really makes a difference.
They have 87 "district directors" on the payroll that earn 79,200 to 84,516 as of july 1 2010.
Thats not bad money esp if you live in southern/western virginia.
Cashiers at the ABC stores DO NOT make 80k a year. They make 10 bucks an hour with NO BENEFITS!!!!!!! You can check the job listings on the ABC site to verify. Get your facts straight before you start complaining. You do not get benefits until you reach the assistant manager and manager levels. And those jobs are equall to just about any retail job. Been there done that.

That's like saying 7-11 employees make $80K a year, not all in money but in food discounts and free Big Gulps.
Or saying I make $80K a year, not in money but in stolen office supplies.
So what if associates make $11.95 an hour and not do much vs someone at k-mart doing more work and making $8 an hour. Isn't it everyone's dream to make easy money? Don't like it? Change jobs! If you can't because of the economy? Well ABC is hiring! Can't because you don't have enough edu-ma-cation? Get your lazy ass a GED or some higher degree and start living a dream. Don't hate, integrate
