Do you think it's healthy for me to have a child?

My husband and I want to start a family, but we are concerned about the potential health risks to our children. My husband was a pretty hardcore pothead in his teens and twenties and has been clean for two years now. I used to snort a bit of crack myself and was an alcoholic for quite some time. Do you think our bodies are healthy enough to reproduce healthy kids, or will they be defective and mentally challenged?

I honestly can't believe you'd post on this forum...but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.
You and yours want to have kids? and you're not sure if your body is healthy enough to have children. I don't know, nor you, til you try. Our bodies are extremely resilient despite what we do to them. If you're able and he has viable sperm, it should be no problem for you two to procreate.
Depending on your drug usage (i.e. how recent it was and when it was since you last used) your child could very well be born healthy....if it's been a year since either of you have used hard drugs, and you're able to have children - there is a good chance you will have a "normal" child.
Why in quotes...because from your description both of you have had some addiction problems, it's quite likely your child will also. So you may to contend with that as your child grows up. Tis never an easy thing to go through. But that wasn't your question. If you are clean and your lover is also...for a period of time...then your child should be okay (statistically speaking).

Adopt or be foster parents, you can raise a child in need of a home and don't have to worry about what you are worried about.
