How long does it take to get the title from the finance company?

How long does it take to get the title from the finance company once the vehicle is paid off? I bought a car for very cheap from someone local who claims they overnighted the last payment and so the guy told me it would only take a week. We are now going on the second week. If the lien has been removed from the title and the last payment is processed, cant he just get a copy of the title from DMV? or does it really has to be such a pain in the ass and it takes several weeks? I have all of the seller's information so I am not worried about getting ripped off, it just seems like it shouldnt take that long.

The title has to come from the finance co/bank. It usually takes a couple weeks for them to realize it's paid off, send the paper work to teh right people, opull the title and mail it out

The title comes from the DMV. I paid off my car last month. Got the title in hand. It was addressed from the DMV.
