I don't think anyone doesn't have a family member, friend or loved one of some kind that hasn't suffered from or been taken by cancer. It's a
cruel and fucked up disease and I sent true condolences to the Edwards family.

I don't know anything about this woman and I think her ex-hubby is an amoral charlatan of the lowest order, but rest in peace, it's a hard way to go.

The news this morning indicated that the children and John Edwards were at her bedside these last few days. I wouldn't exactly say that Dems have rallied around Edwards, Spitzer, Gary Condit or the former Governor of NJ. As for Clinton, you had a sitting President, which made it difficult for the Dems to simply drop him entirely. Even at that, I seem to recall guys like Lieberman raking Clinton over the coals during that whole mess.

I watched my mother die an excruciating death from breast cancer complications when I was 12 to 14 yrs of age. I remember talking to her on the phone when she was first diagnosed. At 12 years of age I felt my life was over and I was scared. 1972 cancer treatment was like civil war era medicine compared to now and she was butchered.

The Edward's actions during the last few years of her life were one tragic mistake after another. Even the way they counseled their young children.

Their children were ages 6 and 8. John and Elizabeth Edwards told Katie Couric (in response to her questioning their decision to stay on the campaign trail) that their kids are like little birds, and it's time for them to learn to fly. I know that the cancer prognosis isn't necessarily swift, but it is definitely scary for the children to be told that their mom is literally deathly ill. Shouldn't the emotional security of their own children come before a race for office--?

They both had one goal and one goal only and it wasn't the emotional well being of their children. I remembered thinking at the time "learn how to fly!!?", they're only 6 years old! WTF! I got the feeling that she wanted to be first lady more than anything else in the world, even at the expense of her children's well being. From then on I believed all the reports coming out of the their campaign about her being an absolute bitch.

Then to spend the last days of her life trying to ensure her x-husband and some whore didn't wind up raising the kids? Jesus Christ how sad. What an absolute fucked over disaster. Pray for the children.
