Soda Fountain drinks at Fast Fooders

Was at the McDonald's at University Mall last week and some dude was repairing one of the soda dispensers. He'd taken off the cover and it revealed a great deal of black gunk had accumulated. Ain't this stuff called mold. Repairman ran his finger across the black gunk and then made face and rubbed it off(watch it) on his pants. Kind of puts me off ordering soft drinks from fast fooders. Do you think this is prevalent at most soda fountain dispensers at your neighborhood fast fooders?

Probably dripped drink syrup, not "mold".

Yes, and I've seen stories about this in the news. Soda fountains are rarely sanitized, same goes for iced tea dispensers. The stuff is loaded with bacteria. One of the many reasons I just order bottled water.

Not an OCD clean freak by any means, but do you have consider the level of filth that may faester on either unwrapped straws or drink lids?

I've seen a few dispensers that will dole these items out with the turn of a little handle, but in a lot of fast food joints they are completely exposed and vulnerable to the grubby little paws of those who don't wash so well.

Self-vaccination - a little filth here, a little filth there, before ya know it yer immune system is as robust as it can get!

(watch babies/toddlers vaccinating themselves over and over again - find X, stick X in mouth - lesson learned - let yer kid crawl around in the filth if ya want a healthy ex-toddler/adolescent/adult child)

Yep, it was in the news last year that many soda fountains have fecal matter in them. Employees would use the bathroom and not wash their hands, then handle the fountains.

Perfectly logical, and I am totally not one of those Purel abusing, obsessive hand washers...

I am talking about straws and drink lids. Straws have some pretty intimate contact with your mouth, and drink lids come pretty close also.

Imagine some homeless slob with open sores and Hep C or maybe some careless clown who doesn't wipe his ass very well handling the straw that is going to go into your mouth....

Want to Supersize that, sir?

When I worked at restaurants in the past the staff never cleaned the nozzles. The servers would take them off at closing and drop them in a big glass of soda water. Regional managers and other corporate inspections never brought this issue up even though they were gunked up with green/brown paste. It's really nasty, but maybe it's not dangerous enough to enact better standards. Every restaurant I worked at in college had this problem.
