Beyond stupid...and should be totallly criminal

Just read that ANOTHER idiot went out deer hunting with a friend, then shot the friend thinking he was a deer: http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local-beat/The-Night-Note-12610-111410584.html

How the HELL does this happen so often!?

I do NOT understand how someone can shoot at ANYTHING without absolutely knowing what the target is.

Folks who do this should be thrwn into prison without ever getting out for being terminally stupid.

A 56-year-old Baltimore County man was in critical condition at Shock Trauma in Baltimore on Saturday after being accidentally shot Friday afternoon while hunting with a friend in Dorchester County on the Eastern Shore.

Maryland Natural Resources police said Darryl James Patrylak of Bear Creek was shot by his companion, Gerald Edward Merkle, 58, of Parkville, who was in a tree stand with a 30.06 rifle. Patrylak was wearing camouflage clothing, but not a reflective safety vest or cap, police said, and Merkle mistook him for a deer."

They guy is lucky to be alive after being shot with something that powerful.

I'm not certain what Maryland law is, but in VA you can't even hunt with a rifle.

Please don't comment if you don't know what you are talking about. Seriously, there is so much fail in your simple sentence it's mind boggling.

TPL may just be misinformed based on what he's heard about FFX Co. Fairfax doesn't let you firearms hunt with a rifle, only by shotgun in certain sections of the county. Bow is legal county wide though.

Also, here's a better link to the story; Both idiots could end up being charged with negligent hunting as the guy that was shot wasn't wearing blaze orange.

I am a friend of the man who was shot. he usually wears an orange vest. I do not know whyhe was not but I would be concerned about it.

If you're the one informing TPL then I can see why he may be misinformed. Since you didn't see it fit to click my link I'll just post what it would have provided you.

Local Firearms Ordinances

Fairfax County

- No rifles larger than .22 for hunting.
- No hunting with firearms of game species from within 100 yds. of a road.
- All rifles, pistols, or shotguns loaded with slugs prohibited for any hunting.

Is that right!?

I remember going hunting with "pumpkin balls" http://smallboreshotgun.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/roundball_shell_small.jpg loaded into the shotgun shells - my brother still has the three guns my father, he, and I used for deer hunting with those shells (never fired one, BTW, due to being lousy deer hunters).

Is a pumpkin ball considered a "slug"?

A 22-250 is used for deer.
