I remember seeing this demonstrated on the TV show "Future Weapons". It was awesome.

Yes it is. And now to see it in the hands of our troops is even more awesome. Just don't let XE (formerly Blackwater) have any.

This is some really cool technology. I couldn't help but be reminded of the "Get the Roach" scene in Apocalypse Now at the Do Long bridge where Roach, a grenade launching "Jedi" takes out an NVA soldier hiding in the darkness.

It won't be too long before an enemy captures one of these weapons, reverse engineers it, and comes out with an improved version that is then used against us.

due to the complexity, it's extremely unlikely for any non-UN members to do that. if someone was going to reverse engineer it, it would be china because they like all our toys and then sell shitty versions of them. if the chinese got caught selling these to our enemies, there would be trouble in chinatown.

New technology never works 100% correctly in the first production run. I've seen enough new gadgets come and go to know that, in 6 months after initial deployment, troops will probably find some design flaw that's apparent during field deployment, but not during the testing phase.

Yes, I think there's a huge difference between making a few of them to demonstrate how awesome they are, and mass-producing thousands of them for actual use.

Special Forces and certain infantry units will probably field test them for a while before anyone signs off on mass production.
