Army Contract
Posted by: Army ()

so I sighned up in the army for a six year term. Recently I decided to shorten
my contract due to the extra benefits if you reinlist after a 3 year period. My recrtuiter said that they filed the request and its been a week and nothing has been done yet. I am scheduled to leave on september 3rd and I have a feeling that I getting f*cked over and the last moment they going to say that they didnt get a response or some bs answer like that meaning I will be stuck in the contract for 6 years. I heard you can still back out of the contract if you havent left for basic yet. I am thinking about resighning the contract and just call it quits for a year or so until I finish my degree. Whats the best way to forfeit the contact? Worse case scenario I could always get a wreckless ticket meaning I have to show up in court so by law I wouldnt be able to go but I dont want to go that far...... Anyones thought? BTW Army is the branch of choise

Fighting a contract with the U.S. Army? Good luck. You are screwed. Sorry to tell you, but these people own you until they decide they don't.

not from what I heard, I believe you can back out of the contract before your ship date to basic. Also like I mentioned I could get some bs traffic ticket and then I have to stay here by law but I dont want to go that far.....

Bad advice! Mexico treats illegal aliens as felons and you would be a criminal illegal alien. I don't think you'd enjoy a Tijuana jail stay.

You have just been screwed by what we referred to in the Army as "the green weenie"
3 years is a better deal if you should decide that you dont like the Army. You may
have a way out of 6 yr. but you'd best be camped on that Recruiters doorstep until
he gets it resolved. If you show up in a dress, they'll definitly send you home,
but it will be etched in your legal record for the rest of your life. You are not
really a "soldier" until you complete basic training. After that, they got you by
the gonads. Back in the 60's some would keep going AWOL during basic training. Typically, an AWOL will go straight home and the FBI will come and get you. After the third time, they will give you a discharge based on "inability to adjust to
military life". Then, no GI bill, No VA benefits. Zip. My advice, go for the 3 years, keep your nose clean, and if you like it, stay. If not, go home and enjoy your GI bill and veterans preferrence in hiring. Nice to belong to the American Legion and VFW too.

Six years! Damn if you do the full six you might as well stay for twenty and get retirement benefits.

Forget the dress and heels route , it didnt work for max klinger it wont work for you. Better be careful on pulling any half ass stunts while you are in. The military record will follow you through life.

Have you been sworn in yet ? are you in DEP ? Have you been to meps to actually sign your contract before shipping to basic ? If not then all you have to do is back out of this.

BTW dont try to get out of it by doing any thing stupid you will only screw yourself over. Your contract is what will make or break this deal. The night before you ship off you will be at meps and will sign your contract, select MOS fields you want, and such but if any thing looks fishy tell them what you want. Worst case scenario if thats where you will be signing your contract you may have to wait for a different ship date because your selected MOS will most likely not be avaialable for that cycle. I dont know how the army works right now I am familiar with Marine Corps though.

Just back down before boot camp. Nothing they can do. Regardless of whether or not you signed a contract.
