I am the enemy
Posted by: enemy ()
Date: November 01, 2010 12:03PM

The president said: "If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, 'We're gonna punish our enemies, and we're gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us' - if they don't see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election - then I think it's going to be harder. And that's why I think it's so important that people focus on voting on November 2nd."

--------------

In the past, "our" enemies have been the 3rd Reich, the Soviet Union, Al Qaeda, the Taliban, etc. Now, the President of the United States has deemed those that disagree with his policies as "our enemies." Well, I will answer this charge in the voting booth tomorrow. What is the President advocating by deeming me his enemy? A return to the radical violence that has been practiced by the left?

Obviously. That's the most Radical Right interpretation of his statements, so he must be advocating violent suppression of people who disagree with his policies.

Idiot.

OK, Genius, then what does he mean by labeling his opposition "our enemy?" It is a Nixonian statement that needs to be explained. If I am an "idiot" for asking the question, what is the President for making the statement?

I believe it was George W. Bush that first said, "Either you're with us or you're against us."

And then he whipped out his Kenyan birth certificate and goose-stepped across the stage chanting "God Bless the United Socialist States of Allah"!

Actually he didn't say that. He said" "And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists."

Even if you were right in your belief about what he said, George W. Bush was speaking about nations that harbor terrorists, not US Citizens that disagreed with him.

Because I'm curious if that's the same speech where Obama said Americans should be eating more puppies before unveiling plans for the White House Mosque.

I can't see the video, and as the person posting this information, it's your responsibility to provide the source. That's more of a posting etiquette thing, so whatever.

Now, about his statement... If you're pro-life, you're an enemy of pro-choice. If you don't support gay marriage, you're an enemy of those who do. "Enemy" is a strong word, but it doesn't mean "use violence."

You have nothing to worry about. What he meant was that people should vote the politicians who do not share the same view on key issues out of office. He was not encouraging the Scary Brown People to commit acts of violence against Republicans, conservatives, and right-wing politicians.

First, brown people aren't scary. We all know it is whites that need to be watched.

Second, it was an imbecilic statement by a President who is slowly losing touch with reality. He once said: "because we are not a collection of Red States and Blue States, we are the United States of America." (Go look it up, I am not searching for a source.)

How do his recent statements stand next to his previous statements? Simply put, they don't. When he calls Americans "enemies," he is more divisive than Bush and as divisive as Nixon.

If I were to come on here and call Obama "my enemy," I bet you would pounce all over it. He says it, and you have all the lameass defenses lined up. Really quite pathetic.

You were biased before you heard this statement; all it does is conveniently fit into the opinion you already have of him. "Losing touch with reality" is right-wing parrot-speak.

Regardless, both sides are made of POLITICIANS. Both sides say whatever they think you want to hear to get you to vote for them, their party, their agenda, etc. Democrats, liberals, and the left are just as guilty as Republicans, conservatives, and the right. Politicians exploit this "us vs. them" mentality to great effect; you yourself have bought into it, whether or not you realize it.

He's calling the politicians enemies, not regular American citizens. This is different than the post-9/11 mentality of "If you don't want to go to war, you are unpatriotic and the enemy," which was directed at American citizens.

When Obama says something abrasive that is in-context and intentional, then I will gladly join you in talking about how wrong it was of him. You interpreting what he says to fit your worldview doesn't count.

And yes, I stood up for Bush in a similar manner.

It's about the same as your tired, boring, repetetive nonsense.

This is such a stupid argument. It will reinforce the views of those who already feel negatively of Obama but I don't see it swaying many one way or the other.

He's talking about political opponents. He's reminding this voting bloc of who has been on their side on issues that matter to them, and he's asking them to go out and support his party.

How was I being repetitive? I was saying it's all political posturing, and it's done by every politician in America.

Sorry, but saying the President is "losing touch with reality" is fucking retarded, like the President is slowly slipping into some sort of solipsistic fugue from which he will never return. I don't remember Obama saying he was too busy to try to address unemployment because Aslan needed him to save Narnia. He didn't slip away during the Gulf oil spill to go ride on Falcor the Luck Dragon. He never said we can win the War on Terror by teaching our military 9th level spells.

He doesn't have an imaginary friend that he saves a place for at the dinner table. His hypoallergenic dog isn't telling him how to run the country, as far as we know (insert Pelosi joke here). He isn't using public funds to research unicorns. He isn't directing NASA to stop fucking around with the moon and start looking for Pandora. Not even a tiny little archaeological expedition to find the Ark of the Covenant.

No. He's one politician trying to manage the wants and needs of 300,000,000 people who don't know what they want or need, and he can't do anything significant without the majority consensus of 535 other self-serving politicians.

If you want to disagree with his policies, then disagree with them. But you and everyone else who says the President is doing a good or bad job, depending on your political party affiliation, are what's really wrong with American politics. It is a terrible and dreadful thing that our leaders are chosen and judged not by their merit, but whether their symbol is an elephant or a donkey.

Calling fellow Americans "Enemies" is pure bullshit, especially when you're our President. What a fucking joke.
