Penthouse magazine founder Bob Guccione dies at 79

died Wednesday in Texas at the age of 79. He estimated that Penthouse earned $4 billion during his reign as publisher. He was listed in the Forbes 400 ranking of wealthiest people with a net worth of about $400 million in 1982.

But Guccione's empire fell apart thanks to several bad investments and changes in the pornography industry, which became flooded with competition as it migrated from print to video and the Internet. His company, his world-class art collection, his huge Manhattan mansion - all of it, sold off.

I guess it just goes to show us that it dosen't matter how wealthy we are. In some capacity life just sucks....and then we die. It would just suck more if we were to lose a fortune then die.

I haven't seen a skin rag in years, I fgured they all but disappeared when online smut became available.

I always found Playboy to be overrated and pretentious. The girls were definitely hotter, but it's always really tame and tasteful photoshoots and the stupid little "likes and dislikes" waste of print. The journalism could be good at times, but since print media is dying, I think we'll have a better world as far as access and diversity of opinion goes.

Penthouse was a far better mag than Playboy as far as the girls went. Penthouse was never scared to show a labia or a little finger or lez action, Playboy always seemed to play it safe.

Yea, I preferred Penthouse over Playboy, but evolved to Hustler by 15. Now kids have $6000 gaming PC's that they use as wanking stations to a medley of pornographic products available.

I still have Debbie does Dallas and Deep Throat on Beta in a box in the attic.

Playboy is pretentious, Penthouse has a seedy feel to it, and Hustler and it's spinoffs are just awesome.

Maybe the eulogy at his funeral will be read like a Dear Penthouse letter.

LOL.

I remember coming across a Penthouse after my adolescent years and being actually surprised that they were showing penetration. When I was a kid and could get access to one of these skin mags, the sex was always "close, but not quite". I guess with online porn, they had to compete.

Playboy is R rated really - mostly T&A with hints of bush (or lack thereof) - their articles are usually quite good. I would call it a men's magazine but not really pornographic

Penthouse - NC-17 - full frontal but not hardcore pornographic - articles generally suck.

Hustler - X - full-on nudity, hardcore penetration, etc - articles are quite leftist but usually hilarious.
