Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
What are your favorites? I was cleaning out my garage over the weekend and found my old copies of all the Bloom County books. I forgot how great of a strip that that was. Also unearthed a bunch of old Peanuts books from the 60's and 70's when it was at its creative heyday.
Of course Far Side. I wasn't thinking of single-panel strips.
Not many strips have punch lines so memorable you can make people laugh without any visuals.
Example: "Bummer of a birth mark, Hal."
Bizarro has its moments too. Still my favorite: Teenage fast food worker is on trial. Everyone else in the courtroom is a bovine. Prosecutor holds up a Big Mac-type hamburger to the shocked courtroom and says, "Perhaps THIS will refresh your memory!"
i'll have to go with 'dilbert' and 'close to home' as my all time favorites now. growing up, it was 'mother goose and grimm,' but i really can't stand to read it today.

I bought it too. Beautiful set. I've started collecting the nice Peanuts volumes too.
It's nice to be old and have $$ to spend on shit like this!
best single-panel cartoonist I know of, Bernard Kliban. Gag cartoons are extremely difficult to do---these are so good it almost makes me mad.
