Having said that, how there is literally el salvadoran women on every corner in the FFX, Annandale, Burke general area and so few women from sweden or scandinavia in total? I can't be the only Northern Virginian who think all women from el salvador would make me rather be in a prison full of men.

It's simple. Scandinavia is not a Third World shithole that it's residents want to escape. El Salvador is.

It's hard for Americans to understand but not everyone wants to be American. Quite the contrary, most residents of developed countries would not move here if you paid them. Why would they want to live in this de-industrializing, violent, and corrupt country.

I've read surveys that asked people what country they would move to if they could. The U.S. rarely makes the top 5.

say has it right...while there is a trickle of Europeans living in this country, most are content at home. I've even thought of going back at times, but I am too used to many things American to bother with assimilating back =)

The easy answer is this - economics.

If you're in El Salvador of the common class - your education is likely fairly low, your job prospects even lower and even if you were employed your wages are likely ~$10-20 p/day if you're doing well. They only do what is natural...you would too, as it doesn't take even a lowly educated Salvadoran to figure this out...in the US one could work illegally and bring in 3-5 times the daily wages sometimes more for the same work you're doing in El Salvador. What they don't often realize is that the standard of living is also fairly high in the US. They often negate that by bunking together and sharing common resources.

Contrast that with the common class in Europe - let's pick Sweden - your education is fairly high (most graduate high school which is the equivalent to two years college in the US), job prospects are fair (<9%), and wages on avg are lower but similar to US ~160 p/day).

If those Swedes knew of a place where they could work to the same level but make 3-5times+, I can guarantee that you'd see a lot more of them in this country.

My wife is Southern European. Still was a card carrying till just a couple years ago. She became a US National because we were tired of standing in different lines at the airport.

You've never been anywhere else in the world outside of maybe Western Europe. Then again, Western Europeans are still trying to move here in droves, but they're given back seat treatment to the Mexicans.
