I'm fairly certain if it were big enough, it would fuck you up...

It looks like a Leaf-footed bug.

Do you grow squash in your garden by any chance?

One of my friends took the pic on his patio in fairfax. No squash around and I think it would be way to big to be a species of the leaf footed bug. Shit but there is probally 1000 sub species who knows!

There probably are a thousand niches of leaf-footer species and your pic looks like one. They don't just eat squash and pumpkin leaves. They're plant-insects and won't infest your house.

And yes, they look prehistoric because alot of insects like that have been around since before dinosaurs even existed.

I find new bugs all the time around here, and some of them only stick around for one or two seasons before disappearing again. The latest rage has been neon orange critters.

What you have here is a Wheel Bug, of the Reduviidae family.

I have a picture of a younger version of this bug, with bright orange and dark black coloring. I thought it was some kind of spider at first, but now thanks to this thread, I realized it's a Wheel Bug in younger form!

Wheel bug-

It then injects enzymes into the victim, paralyzing it and dissolving its insides, and proceeds to drain all of the victim's bodily fluids. The bite of a wheel bug is painful and may take months to heal (sometimes leaving a small scar), so caution is advised when handling them. - Wiki

Cool! Hopefully these things will kill and eat stinkbugs. It'll be like alien vs predator.
