16.9 Oz

I've noticed many items, from bottles of water to frozen meals, have weights that stop at 16.9 ounces. Curiously, 16.9 ounces is not 1 pound (it is a little over) and it is not half a liter (it is a little under).

So, is there something substantially cost prohibitive about a product labeled 17 ounces or above? Or are they more restricted in some way?

Inquiring minds want to know.

16.907 fl oz is 499.99966 ml. I guess they are getting as close to 500 ml. as possible

The metric system wasn't a bad idea for weights and mechanical measurements, but I would fight to the death to keep miles, farenheit, feet and inches.
