Excellent work!

Although 20 bucks is alot of dough to kick outta your ass.

The biggest bill I have given to a street-bum was a $5 dollar bill.

Unless you want to consider the time a gave a $100 dollar bill
to a street-whore, but that was a little different.

This sounds like something you need to write on a blog, not a message board.

Twitter and Blogger are free. Use them and write away Dika-Dika.

Just like a dog once you give them a treat they keep coming back. Well at least we know that your 20 bucks was well spent on crack rock or a few dippers. You should be proud that you just feed a bums his addiction. The only thing a bum ever gets out of me is "go get a job you F-ing bum!!"

Speaking of bums anyone remember the bum who sold pencils and pens back in the 80's on M street near 14th. When he died they found out he had $150,000 in the bank but lived in a cardboard box under whitehurst feeway?

It's obvious dika-dika has self-esteem issues and has a pathological need for support and congratulations from people, whether it is genuine or not.

I highly doubt he gave $20 to someone, dika posted pics of his room a few weeks ago; from the looks of it he needs all the money he can get.

I gave a bum $5 and a bottle of Pepsi once. He said he just needed $5 "to get home". I know he was scamming me, but I figured what the hell, he's working for it. Panhandling is a legitimate occupation as far as I'm concerned. If you spend your whole day out in the heat (or cold), trying to get people to give you money, that's probably more work than most people do legitimately in a given day. I admire them, actually. Getting over on the government, tax-free....a lot of these people actually make a pretty good living, especially in big cities like New York. I'm all for it.

Certainly Miz, there are 'wealthy' bum-like scammers,

And then there are the ones in desperate need of dentistry
attention and have other health problems/ mental problems
and to top it all off, many have some severe addiction
they are forced to slave in the heat and cold like you
mentioned to support.

If I can afford it, I'll give spare change to most who ask,
just because they asked. It also may save some poor sap from
getting robbed for a couple hours.

Who knows, your compassion may save the next guy from
getting his melon busted open also.

I don't give street bums any money, none, nada, zip, zero. I've been in D.C. enough to know that 95% of the time they go ahead and get drunk with it. My friend in SE gave a bum some money ONE time, and it was her first time as well as last. As soon as the dough hit his hand, he walked across the street to the liquor store.

The only time I gave a bum money was in Richmond. The reason? He was the only person out of a crowd of folks who actually walked up to us and asked if we were alright after a car accident (We were broadsided, and got spun around). He struck up a conversation for a moment, and he asked if we needed help. I ended up giving him a couple of dollars, and so did my friends.

Btw, I used to have a homeless friend from Temple Hills, and I was cool with him and his sis (She spent a lot of time in-and-out of a group home). They were both good people though, and my friends and I even lined up a job for the kid, and we also brought him to our houses and introduced him to our families (We also had him over for one of our birthday parties). We gave him good, home cooked meals, and we always checked up on him. I haven't seen him in years, but I do know that he never kept the job (It was at a nearby Starbucks, and it included full benefits). Another friend of mine (From Kenya) who used to work at the nearby gas station knew the kid as well, and he said people like that simply never change. He's right, and I really hate to say it, but they're homeless for a reason usually aside from simply being out of a job (It goes deeper than just that, and it often involves underlying mental issues).

sure, Pack-man, there are often underlying issues. So, knowing that a buck or five bucks or even a hundred isn't going to turn the poor bastard's life around, why not just give 'em a little something anyway, even if it is immediately spent on alcohol? Give 'em a little something....let 'em buy a bottle of cheap wine to help keep the shakes from setting in....why not? Quit judging based on things like addiction....at that point, the most humane and only thing you CAN do is throw a little spare change their way....make 'em comfortable, if just for a little while. Why not? What damage is done? It's a shitty situation. For five bucks, you can make it a little less shitty for them, if only for a very brief period of time.
