The Islamic Call to Prayer
Posted by: mcsmack ()
Date: August 24, 2010 10:19AM

The Muslim is called to prayer five times a day. The call to prayer is heard at dawn, at the midday, about the middle of the afternoon, just after sunset, and at night fall about two hours after sunset.

The muezzin, a man appointed to call to prayer, climbs the mineret of the mosque, and he calls in all directions, "Hasten to prayer." Many mosques no longer require the muezzin to climb the mineret. Instead, a loud speaker carries the message.

I'm not sure how I would feel standing at the Ground Zero Memorial and from 2 blocks away I hear this blaring over a loud speaker 5 times a day.

I use to live close to a church that would blare its bell boom box. I guess I kind of got use to it.

But I have to disagree with President Obama here. One of the most beautiful sounds in the world?............Oh Really O? I say bullshit.

This fucking thing going off would scare the shit out of anyone. And Jesus! Five fucking times a day? What a way to make friends and impress people.

I'd snap if that thing went off at dawn where I live. Beautiful my fucking ass! I'd drag that idiot fucking Imam out to the street and beat him like Rodney Fucking King.

I was in Tunisia once for holiday near the border with Algeria (when Algeria was fighting a proxy war against Islam radicals)...one morning I awoke to an awful wail sounded like air raid sirens, I jumped and went scurrying under the bed...turned out it was a call to prayer.

It. Is. Not. A. Mosque.

Why do you think they're going to be broadcasting the call to prayer from a community center?

I dunno they just refer to it as a mosque on their own website so I kind of just took their word for it. I don't give a shit as long as they keep their fucked up screaming bullshit turned down where I can't hear it.

In a July 24, 2010, interview with altmuslim.com, an Islamic news site, Sharif El-Gamal, owner of the building and developer of the Park51 project, was asked, "Why must the project necessarily include a mosque? Wouldn't a general prayer area, which could be reserved in advance by any religious group, be more appropriate and compatible with the community-centric interfaith mission of the project?"

Gamal answered, in part, "With respect to the mosque, which will take up only a small portion of the final space, it’s a question of meeting a need. This mosque will be open to all. There are probably one million Muslims in the tri-state area and several hundred thousand in New York City."

Yeah, stop lying already Mephisto, it is clowns like you who misrepresent things that lead people to distrust. There is enough controversy over this MOSQUE without your deceptive idiocy.

Probably similar to the way hospitals, prisons, and colleges have "chapels" instead of "Christian prayer areas."

From Wikipedia, the Source of All Knowledge:

The word "mosque" in English refers to all types of buildings dedicated for Islamic worship although there is a distinction in Arabic between the smaller, masjids dedicated for daily five prayers and the larger masajid where the daily five prayers and the Friday congregation sermons are held (مسجد جامع, masjid jÄmi‘), which is attended by more people and play more roles such as teaching Qur'an.

I didn't know you lived that close to Ground Zero, or that Muslims have such powerful sound amplification equipment that the call to prayer will be heard in NOVA.

I imagine most Muslims visiting it will not want to get out of the pool, dry off, hop in their car, and drive to the nearest mosque for prayer when they could easily put a space for Muslims to pray right in their privately-owned and developed building.

The "general prayer area" question is bullshit, anyway. I can't imagine many Christians, Hindus, Jews, or Wiccans are going to think, "Hmm... We need a place to get together and pray. Why not that new Muslim Community Center thing by Ground Zero?"

I don't live near ground zero or Nova. I reside in South Beach/ Mi. Fla.

It just gives me a headache thinking about it and pretty much pisses me off.

I'll show you another thing that pisses me off too. Have you ever seen a muslim babe at the pool???

Fuckin' here you go!

Like I say... I don't care just keep the fuck away from me with that shit or there will be trouble. Keep it up there in the North East and enjoy. Seems like most of their fan base lives there anyway.

My friend used to have a clock in his house that would wail this thing out at every call, and another family I know has the same thing. It always shocks me.

In a Nelson DeMille book I was reading not too long ago, a guy referred to the call as: "Screaming like a bunch of fucking Hyenas".

One of the times when I was down in a Richmond apartment for a weekend, some jackass was burning rubber through the alleway at 3-4AM.

What they should do is simply make the place a multi-faith, multi-cultural center, and have it be run by a Rabbi, an Imam, and a Bishop. If they truly want to foster the ideals of tolerance and understanding, then this is the way to accomplish it.

Join the "insensitive bastards club". They need take lessons from the Gregorian Monks and use a chant or something. Am I really being that unreasonable here? Obama with his beautiful noises of the world take? Ya right O! And I got beautiful noises coming out of my fucking ass too! Come on there is no way he believes that. What a dork.

Obama doesn't mean that, it's just a polite political thing to say. It's kind of like when People magazine names Michelle Obama one of the 50 most beautiful people.

If it was a Christian organization that was building a Christian community center with a chapel in it two blocks from Ground Zero, would you feel the same way?

The call to prayer never bothered me when I was in Turkey...but the drum banging at 3am during Ramadan was REALLY annoying! The call to prayer/break-fast in the evening used to scare the shit out of my son. When we came back home he started calling cell phone towers "moks".

it's about context. if this was a 95% islamic country then i'm sure people would feel exactly the same if it was christians that ran planes into their buildings and the family of one of the people who was flying the planes was going to go to it.

you need context.

right now, the building is about making a statement but which statement they are making is debatable. if it wasnt about statement, they would have changed their construction plans by now.

http://weeklystandard.com/blogs/ground-zero-mosque-developer-mosque-could-accommodate-1000

While Park51's website claims the "final size and location of the mosque have yet to be determined," Sharif El-Gamal, head of Soho Properties, Inc., and developer, of the “Ground Zero mosque,†advertises the project on a Muslim website updated as recently as June 5, 2010, in expansive terms different from those the GZM team has lately addressed to the broader public. Al-Gamal’s group declares, “We are trying to establish a full fledged Islamic Center in the lower Manhattan, only 2 blocks from World Trade Center, New York City, NY. It is a neat and clean facility and can accomodate [sic] 1,000 people to pray in Jamat [i.e. collectively] at one time.â€

You know I really don't have a dog in this fight. What ever the community deems appropriate up there is just okay by me. However if they are going to be jamming in 1000 people into what ever it's going to be called, I'll guarantee you they'll be blasting that Goddamn airhorn.

Assuming they can. Acquiring commercial space is not a quick process; this was probably in the works for a while before people found out about it. Now, they're supposed to just say, "Oh, people don't like the idea? No problem. We'll just take our wasted time and money and go somewhere that doesn't offend irrational people."

Unless they're teaching how to make bombs or installing a flight simulator room, I really don't see what the problem is. We dislike the treatment of Christians in the Muslim world, so our response is to... be just as xenophobic?

Maybe we should just push for more Christian churches to be built near Mosques in Saudi Arabia or something. Oh wait - that's right - it would never happen. Please, try to keep the rhetoric on that issue to a minimum. Having an issue over a mosque being built in proximity to a site where we were recently attacked by a radical sect of their faith is a tad bit different than being xenophobic over a particular religion. It would be different if we, on a regular basis, denied any mosque the right to build in almost 99% of the rest of the US that they want to.

So your point is that a religion with a billion and a half people should be judged based on the actions of a few, and because of that radical generalization, we (America) should emulate the intolerant viewpoints of Middle Eastern countries?

Should we tear down the mosque that's already in that area, because it might be an unpleasant reminder once people find out it exists?

No - my point is that we are very tolerant in the US of ALL religions, and generally allow them to build wherever they want, and within the limits of zoning and urban needs, etc. So here we have a case where we have what amounts to a war wound, inflicted on the US - and in particular the folks of NY City - by a radical sect of Islam - one that is also not easily identifiable by their wearing red flags, or some other symbol that instantly denotes them as RADICAL JIHADIST types. Because of that, it is perfectly reasonable that a certain amount of caution - or even downright hostility would be expected when a group that 'could be affiliated with' that sect shows up and wants to build a worship center in proximity to the site where the war was arguably started on a larger playing field. There was no easy way for the man on the street to have a clue which and what mosques were bad ones before the attack, so now folks are saying 'hey, we don't like it - especially here where the results of that attack are still being seen regularly, and pieces of 'stuff' found from time to time.

For us to emulate those other countries, we would just totally ban the building of mosques in the US, or we would force them to always be built on garbage dumps or other toxic waste dumps.

>
> Should we tear down the mosque that's already in

Of course not - it was there before, and there it is. Right now there is a (I believe) Greek Orthodox church that was in the shadow of the WTC that was crushed, and the Port Authority is blocking them rebuilding because of a variety of reasons - the least of which is they want to take/buy the land for building the NEW site.

Yes, logic and the law says it is fine for them to build a new mosque/cultural center wherever zoning allows - that is not in dispute. What is at the heart of the issue is the feelings of the folks in proximity to the site, and the folks that were affected by 9/11. Hell - I didn't like it when they built a church on the corner where my house is - mainly because there would be horrible traffic issues when it was finished (born out and true) and it would make it harder to get in and out of my neighborhood at certain times. I still don't like the place - but does that mean I am prejudiced against churches because they increase traffic and I know it? I suppose folks that didn't want the Disney America site in Haymarket are Mickey Mouse bigots? And they certainly managed to get that derailed even after they had funding secured and all the property rights in place. Certainly churches and mosques have the right to build on property as well - but if the folks in the area don't want them there, there is a good chance they will prevail in some manner and force them to move it elsewhere. The lawsuits alone will most likely tie the place up for a long time.

i am unaware of what the islamic teachings for such a situation would be. in regards to this issue, you are thinking like a businessmen when you should be thinking like a muslim.

i'm not saying i'm for or against it, i was merely making a point to explain the feelings of others and those who cannot properly express their feelings and ideas on the issue.

umm... if that were the case, there would be a LOT of people (not just muslims) being killed in the US. it would completely redefine what US is and stands for.

I had a dream..... That all of the stupid fucking religions didn't exist. Then we would all eat cake and bacon together and get along.

If those sirens are going to be blaring in the city, they are setting a precedent for any kind of noise ordinance. I want to create the church of Melted Cheese, where 6 times a day the sweet sounds of Mike Patton blast to call people to eat cheese fondue.

He was sending you PMs too? Both him and Harry Tuttle sent me at least four PMs before they got the message I wasn't going to respond to him.

Vince(1) did the same thing to me. Amazing how similar the behavior is - and while the subject matter covered is different, the disconnect from reality is very similar.

Well buddy we aren't in Saudi Arabia, so it doesnt matter what the Saudis or any other nation for that matter allows or doesnt allow. Here in the United States we have freedom of religion and equal protection under the law. If their mosque meets all local code requirements, zoning, ect.. Then I dont see any reason why anyone should stop them from building it, no matter what its location. If we as Americans start banning things that some find offensive... well God help us when that starts happening.

Incase you haven't been paying attention, we are past arguing over their 'right' to NEEDLESSLY DESTROY and rebuild a HISTORIC building. We are now discussing why lamewad simplefucks like yourself can't see that the original intended purpose to strengthen relations with the West has failed. We are also wondering why plans have not been reconsidered due to overwhelming public outcry from THE COMMUNITY THEY WANT TO INVADE. There is no high Muslim population in lower Manhattan to warrant such a Muslim mega-center and symbolic victory tower.

the project, dubbed Park51, is promoted by a peacenik Muslim cleric whose sermons often sound a bit like the musings of new-age guru Deepak Chopra. It is also undisputed fact that the imam in question, Feisal Abdul Rauf, is such a moderate that the U.S. government regularly sends him as an emissary to Muslim countries to preach peace, coexistence and dialogue.

Just listen to this decietful bastard speak:

Also this dirtbag Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, leader of the mosque, has
spoken about the possibility of raising money from Arab states.

They don't even have any money to pay for this ominous venture!

Seems like the French have just about had enough. Muslims have been stepping up their protests a bit by blocking streets during afternoon prayer on Fridays citing lack of mosque space as the reason. However lots of them drive across town to attend
the event passing numerous mosques with relatively few in attendance during call to prayer. They are doing this as a show of Muslim strength in France and their pissed about the burqa ban.
