in simple terms, everything moving faster will move slower. since you cant accelerate to the speed of light but only close to it, you could go long distances and while it would seem to be a short time thousands of years may have passed.

you cannot accelerate to the speed of light much less accelerate beyond it. that said, it's may be possible to become faster than the speed of light by changing your velocity without acceleration. how to create such an effect is unknown. alternatively, there is the theory of spacetime folding which didnt work out very well in
Event Horizon.
traveling backwards in time is not possible because time is really just a relativistic construct to convey the measure of movement at similar velocities. which is why when traveling at different velocities the whole idea of time falls apart.
