Obama Bring Iraq Combat Troops - No WMD's Found
Posted by: Sane ()

The search for WMD's is over and the major US oil companies are firmly established to steal Iraq oil.

The last of the combat troops leaves Iraq tonight. Thanks Bush that was a lot of fun.

All we did there was piss off a lot of Iraq's.

Last U.S. Combat Brigade Leaves Iraq

[IRAQSOLDIERS_01]

KHABARI CROSSING, Kuwait — As their convoy reached the barbed wire at the border crossing out of Iraq on Wednesday, the soldiers whooped and cheered. Then they scrambled out of their stifling hot armored vehicles, unfurled an American flag and posed for group photos.

For these troops of the 4th Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, it was a moment of relief fraught with symbolism. Seven years and five months after the U.S.-led invasion, the last American combat brigade was leaving Iraq, well ahead of President Obama's Aug. 31 deadline for ending U.S. combat operations there.

When 18-year-old Spc. Luke Dill first rolled into Iraq as part of the U.S. invasion, his Humvee was so vulnerable to bombs that the troops lined its floor with flak jackets.

IRAQSOLDIERS_02
A U.S. Army soldier waves from his Stryker armored vehicle after crossing the border from Iraq into Kuwait on Wednesday.

Now 25 and a staff sergeant after two tours of duty, he rode out of Iraq this week in a Stryker, an eight-wheeled behemoth encrusted with armor and add-ons to ward off grenades and other projectiles.

"It's something I'm going to be proud of for the rest of my life — the fact that I came in on the initial push and now I'm leaving with the last of the combat units," he said.

He remembered three straight days of mortar attacks outside the city of Najaf in 2003, so noisy that after the firing ended, the silence kept him awake at nights. He recalled the night skies over the northern city of Mosul being lit up by tracer bullets from almost every direction.

Now, waiting for him back in Olympia, Wash., is the "Big Boy" Harley-Davidson he purchased from one of the motorcycle company's dealerships at U.S. bases in Iraq — a vivid illustration of how embedded the American presence has become since the invasion of March 20, 2003.

That presence is far from over. Scatterings of combat troops still await departure, and some 50,000 will stay another year in what is designated as a noncombat role. They will carry weapons to defend themselves and accompany Iraqi troops on missions (but only if asked). Special forces will continue to help Iraqis hunt for terrorists.

So the U.S. death toll — at least 4,415 by Pentagon count as of Wednesday — may not yet be final.

So Fuck You Sane. Enjoy your freedom at others expense.

55,000+ troops are going to remain in IRAQ.

Don't let this fool you. I know we're referring to the troops who are coming back home as "combat" troops...

What the fuck does that mean? The 55,000 troops still there are what, just playing chess?

It's all political bullshit. The other 50,000 are Special Operations, Security Forces, etc. Basically though, the term "Combat" is simply being swapped with "Peace keeper".

Go suck a dick. Nothing I said warranted the response you gave me.

You want to talk about supporting the troops? I voted for Ron Paul in 2008. The United States Armed Forces donated MORE MONEY TO HIS CAMPAIGN than any other candidate. AND more than any other Republican Candidate he stood on stage with in the debates...COMBINED.

That includes the guy you voted for...John McCain.

You hear "support the troops" all the time.

Well RON PAUL IS WHO OUR TROOPS SUPPORT.

So keep voting for puppets that don't give a shit about them.

If you didn't support our effort in Iraq you didn't support our troops. If you did I misunderstood your post and I apologize.

Having retired from the military and after suffering through both the Carter and Clinton years, it's easy to see why most of the troops support Republican candidates and lean right or are Conservative.

A review of recent history also shows that it is the dems that generally get us into and/or muck up combat operations, such as Vietnam, the Iran rescue mission, Somalia, and so on.

Only if that review omits the last decade.

I flipped between MSNBC and Fox News last night. MSNBC had Richard and Rachel on the ground in Iraq reporting the combat troop exit. The intervied the brass, and troops, and explained what it all meant.

Fix News had Hannity talking to Huckabee about Obama's poll numbers, and then Hannity's Great American Panel talking about the Mosque. At 10 PM Fox did a news brief on Iraq, and then went into Gretta, in Alaska, devoting her hour again to why we need to drill for more Alaskan oil.

Fox News, isn't news.

Fox didn't cover it because they would have had to admit that they spent 7 years cheerleading a debacle.

Actually an excellent point. The coverage of the last combat brigade crossing the border into Kuwait was significant but also symbolic, because there will still be 50,000 remaining soldiers serving in an “advisory†role. That’s largely why you aren’t hearing the words “victory†or “mission accomplished,†or even "success" from the White House, which is fearful of repeating the mistake the Bush administration made in ’03. But the administration is hoping that Obama keeping his word this month on withdrawal buys them more time and credibility with Afghanistan.

There's no working government in Iraq and there are suicide bombers blowing up military recruits. Hope they have enough helicopters to airlift 50,000 soldiers in the coming months, because the shit is going to hit the fan.

That is one of my concerns also. I hope you're wrong. Have a good one!

Psychologically speaking, yes. It was helping to hold the country together. Its leaving represents the U.S. leaving Iraq (even if we have 50,000 there still). Iraq is going to end up where people like me predicted in 2003...a Yugoslavia-type civil war that leads to it breaking up.

Almost everyone in the MIL whom I know is Republican/Conservative. Even the ones who aren't, they are still relatively Moderate (They're more akin to a Mark Warner type of Democrat). I sure as hell don't personally know any Leftists within the ranks.

Hey, you know what? Biden wasn't the only one who suggested breaking Iraq into sectarian based provinces. A high ranking individual whom I have a tremendous amount of respect for, initially had the same idea. It makes a ton of sense to be honest, and worst case, it's always an option. As for Afghanistan, it's the ONLY option there.
