I smell Jury Tampering

A single juror prevented former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich being convicted of selling Barack Obama's Senate seat, the jury foreman has said.

The juror, a female retiree, believed there wasn't sufficient evidence - "a smoking gun" - to warrant a conviction for corruption, James Matsumoto said.

"She saw it as, no crime was being committed. It was just talk - political talk," Mr Matsumoto told reporters.

He probably offered a Senate seat to the juror... She seems stupid enough to believe he has one to give.

I thought the same thing. It would have been different if a few jurors felt this way, but apparently this gal was a "no go" from the start. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the asshole didn't pay this gal off.

"No smoking gun"? Last time I checked, that was not required to be found guilty of any crime. Having said that, I don't believe though that what he did is any different than what many others have done in the past, and many more in the future will continue to do. He probably got on one too many bad sides and 'got caught' as a result.

More likely someone seeking their fifteen minutes of fame. If 11 vote to convict and one holds out guess who gets their face all over tv for a few weeks.

It was one juror on that ONE count. On all the others it was more.

The juror, Jo Ann Chiakulas, is "a black female believed to be in her 60s, a retired state public health director who has ties to the Chicago Urban League.

She has handed out campaign literature for a relative who ran for public office.

She listens to National Public Radio and liberal talk radio shows
." http://abclocal.go.com/wls/gallery?section=news&id=7603107&photo=3

There may be less here than meets the eye.

Chiakulas, whose professional career history no doubt gave her a solid education in the workings of machine politics, may have figured that Blago did nothing out of the ordinary.

Also, recall that Fitzgerald (whose ethics are a bit shady http://online.wsj.com/article/NA_WSJ_PUB:SB122913032247103429.html) stopped the investigation early, before Blago had done anything unambiguously illegal.

Why?

There are very strong indications that a deal with Jesse Jackson Jr. was on the verge of coming together. http://www.progressive.org/ld072410.html

Can you imagine the reaction if, less than a month after electing Obama, the US had been faced with Jackson Jr. being indicted for buying Obama's Senate seat? Talk about popping the balloons at before the party had even started.

another cut & paste news article courtesy eesh. Yes, this is soooooo much more entertaining than the Mr. Belvedere Thread.......I looooooove reading shitty news articles off of the web on a broke-dick local discussion forum where everyone is a disciple of the Bill O'Reilly Fox News school of thinking. It's just so...........enlightening. Job done, eeshycakes. This is compelling stuff.
