did you shut off the water to your outside hose bibbs? If not they will freeze and bust this weekend.

Merry Christmas to me. I will make over 10 thousand dollars in profit over the weekend. My holiday rate is double my regular rate and people don't care when their pipes are busted plus their homeowners insurance will pay them back for most of the cost.

What if you put an insulated cover on the outside and a heater cable on the inside? That valve doesn't look like it's ever been turned since the house was built in 1953. I'm afraid to turn it.

Outside cover and heater cable you mention will do just fine. Get a new hose bib installed in the Spring for piece of mind.

WRONG

Typical dumb ass never thinks through anything he is told ...

So you shut the water off now it's trapped between the shut-off valve and the outside valve, which means it will COOL FASTER since it's not connected to the warmer water inside (actually it is since the valve and pipes are metal). It does NOT prevent it from freezing.

WHAT IT DOES

If there is a deep freeze and burse it will not keep flowing since it's already shut off.

The TRUTH

Most winters you can leave it on. You hose will freeze (probably will anyway unless you drained it and hanged it indoors). Then it thaws on warmer days and you can wash the car. But if there's a quick good freeze (and say your not insulated well), it can break near the hose valve: which when it THAWS will be a full run of water in the house thousands of gallons.

THANK YOU FOR MIS-INFORMING US AGAIN!

THE TRUTH DEMOCRATS DON'T WANT ADVERTISED

Your supposed to drain the water between the two valves to prevent a burst.

However fucking illegal aliens built most newever homes using HomeDepot parts from China. The "built-in" drain pip on those shut-off valves FACE THE WRONG WAY and or were installed backwards.

Meaning you have to drain the whole fucking house because they are fucking retards and china sucks.

THE TRUTH IS SHUTTING OFF THE WATER IS HALF THE JOB

there is good news. it probably wont burst. next year turn it back on and check for leaks after. there probably won't be any. but might as well look for water.

Most homes have the required vacuum breaker and the draining is done automatically. You are one ignorant fuck.

I saw that my Trumptard neighbor removed his vacuum breakers from his hose bibbs so I reported him to code compliance and the health department. He had to re-install them or they were going to shut off his water and give him a fine. It was funny as shit.

G2 DOES NOTHING BUT LIE ON FFU - HE'S A FUCKING TERRORIST

THE ABOVE IS COMPLETELY UNTRUE

THERE ARE NO HEALTH CODES AND SAYING POOR MANUFACTURING IS "for an alternate stupid use of vacuum" (sure, vacuum on a water line: never happens)

While it is true that the plumbing codes regulate the use of vacuum breakers the health department is well within its rights to disconnect the water supply to the building if the vacuum breakers have been removed. There was a case years ago in Centreville where a man had his garden hose in his swimming pool when the water pressure to the neighborhood was shut down for some reason. With no vacuum breaker the water from the pool syphoned back into the sanitary water system and caused a number of local residents to get sick. If someone had died from the contaminated water that homeowner could have faced jail time. In this case he was simply fined and required to bring his plumbing up to code. As a good citizen I am always on the lookout for code violations and I always report them.

Why were people drinking from the sanitary system?

As an esteemed college grad with a BA in liberal arts that took me 6 years to finish and now government high income employee ordering office supplies

I say close the shut off valves inside to the outside hose bibs then the water will drain from them

I did just that today of course they were frozen shut from corrosion as they never have been closed since 1962 when my house was built so I forced them and broke off the valve handle and ruined the stems not to fear I tried to shut off my main water gate valve feed . It too was frozen by corrosion and broke off in the open position so if my shit freezes and burst Im going to be wet and shit out of luck till plumbers come back on regular pay cuz Im one cheap SOB liberal who feels Im worth far more per hour then any workman because I know it all because I have a college degree

One more tip of advise how bout that Democrat president Joe Biden ain't he the greatest ! Hes upholding our Democrat Democracy so well ! No more mean tweets from mean old Trump !

THAT'S COMPLETE BULLSHIT. your talking about a back-pressure valve which is entirely different and 7x more expensive.

there are 100 ways to sunday "get the water out" without a nib. a vacuum breaker in every valve is NEVER needed.

the reason is they are CHEAP. less metal used in manufacturing. it's not thick enough to be threaded where it SHOULD be. they are just making excuses for cheap. it looks like a drain but it isn't. they began doing it during Clinton. cheap shit.

(a vacuum breaker would NOT fix the problem above anymore than 100 other methods and it's illegal NOT to have a back-pressure value which WOULD fix it)

SPAMMER.

backpressure values are pretty common for WASTE PIPES, rare for water pipes (in the home anyhow - on the street is a different $$cost story)

#2 YOUR NOT ALLOWED TO DIRECTLY CONNECT A WATER PIPE TO A POOL, because a pool is "grey water".

I know what chart you pulled up. You read it wrong. The pool was at the bottom of the hill AND IT WAS AN EXAMPLE: nobody died.

Siphoning can happen but if it's clean on both sides and fauceted on both sides and 80psi on both does it doesn't matter!

Only "unwanted siphoning" matters.

Here's what I'm interested in. Is it really that bad with all the services that tough guys in worker overalls do? I live in Canada and I can't say that life is cheap either.. However, I did not suffer financial ruin when I signed a contract with a contractor for drain repair - https://www.draincom.ca/ You can check the prices for services yourself. But here I see hell and sodomy in the comments. Maybe it's not so bad, guys?

My water lines froze because I had a cold drafty electric heat pump in my house that allowed the hose bibs to freeze because the crawl space was too cold . After fixing the damage to my water pipes which set me back $5300 I ditched that drafty bitch and had a warm ready flame gas furnace put in for a total of $10780 inducing the frozen pipe cost

No more broken water lines warm and cozy all the time in the coldest winters

I even have stray dogs cats squirrels rabbits foxes possums and raccoons waiting for me to let them stay in the crawl space overnight on the deep freeze nights we get now and then now !
