As an atheist, surrounded by christians and folks from other religions, I find that when I reveal to them that I'm an atheist, their immediate thoughts and reactions turn to Satan. They tend to believe that anyone that doesn't believe in God must be a Satan worshipper (what else could be the reason?).
If I don't believe in God, how could I possibly believe in Satan? They are one and the same in my view, imaginary. Sure, I love a good exorcism or god vs the devil movie, but only because I have a vivid imagination and can suspend my logic and reason long enough to enjoy a film.
My question is, does anyone REALLY believe in Satan? Why didn't he write a book like God did, explaining what we're all supposed to do to appease him? If he's so powerful, how come more people don't preach for him and get the word out?
I think it's because deep down inside, most people don't believe in either god or Satan. If they really believed, they wouldn't sin nearly as much as they do.
People who preach either are terrorists. They achieve their goal of mental and societal conquest by instilling fear and terror in the general population. What's more terrifying than the thought of roasting forever in a sea of flames or any of the other descriptions of hell and damnation?
Whose terrorist tactics have been more effective? Modern day extremists or God's?
