My Chevy Volt needs a new battery and it costs almost 10k dollars.

When my Volt was new I could go about 70 miles before it switched over to gas. Now I can only get about 25 miles out of the battery. The cost of a new battery wipes out any money I saved by driving on electric power. The car still runs fine on gas so I am just giving up on the electric. The new battery costs about the same as the value of the car.

You should have leased it and then turned it in after 3 years.

OP your dilemma is the inevitable result of listening to libtards, who tell us we all need to drive electric cars. When has listening to a libtard about anything worked well. And what will happen with all these dead batteries? Where will we put them all? In twenty years libtards will say car batteries disposal is causing climate change and blame Trump for it.

That's probably the worst financial decision you can make besides putting solar panels on your house.

Their poor because they don't have over exaggerated federal jobs jobs or contracts paying way more then they are worth
In the country people get by on 35 to 65k a year , and there's millions of these folks, so how in the hell can they afford expensive lib fad electric cars and their stupid huge battery replacements that cost so much
Hell if the engine goes in the old Civic or Ford truck they will throw a junkyard one in for 600 dollars tops in the carport tent and drive another 100 thou on that one
AND have it done starting on a Sat at 5 am after their wife makes them a big country breakfast , finishing up with the good old boys and their wives and gals stopping by to visit , sipping on some cold ones pickin some music on the guitar and lending a hand getting that motor in till its done about 7 pm with a big tasty BBQ ready about 5 to munch on while they talk watch games and work the wrenches
While libs have to listen to neurotic bleeding heart lib fatty wives bitchen again about sometime Trump said that hurt her feelings . Sitting on the couch in bloated tight purple stretch pants, her hand pulling on their ear, Honey you have to stay with me at home tonight! Im not happy Trump made me upset , you have to listen to me and agree with me if were gong to stay together

If you don't have the liberal arts education to get a good federal GS-13 job like mine, you cant afford the electric car if you have to ask how much the replacement battery costs but to save the planet you must sell all you have and buy one anyway

They already sell refurbed hybrid batteries. $800 vs $3K for new. That's for a Fusion. I don't know about the others.

Before you petrol heads get too smug, consider this. Most railroad locomotives are powered by electric motors. The diesel engine is just there to produce the electricity.

I have no sympathy for libtards who have bought into the “save the planet” narrative sold by elite libtards and their electric cars bullshit. Anyone with half a brain could tell it’s idiocy. Don’t come crying to us about your expensive repairs. Anyone who listens to libtards deserves what they get.

It isn't enough that you are a moron. You now want to advertise it. Using electricity as the primary means of propulsion, as the Chevy Volt does, and using the internal combustion engine only to produce that electricity, is neither new, unusual or unmanly. Railroads have been doing it for 80 plus years. It is just relatively new in cars. However anyone who watched the later episodes of Top Gear or Grand Tour knows that there are some awesome cars out there that use electricity for propulsion and only use an internal combustion engine to keep the batteries charged. The Chevy Volt is not one of them. If you have to factor in a $10k battery replacement every three to five years into your cost of ownership, there are better cars you can buy for the same money.

They've actually been doing it for almost a hundred. NYCS had some in the 1920s. They were built by Alco with Ingersoll-Rand or Buda diesel engines and GE electricals. Most of those with the Budas were constant speed diesel engines that charged batteries that supplied the actual power to the traction motors. One of the Chevy hybrids runs on a similar principle, but I forget which one it is. It's a constant speed gas engine instead of a diesel.

My Chevy Volt has almost 350,000 miles on it and has never needed a new battery. It has saved me enough money to make about half the car payment. Buying a Chevy volt was the best decision I ever made.

You libtards are falling all over yourselves to pretend to be more green than the next homo, meanwhile your efforts are rapidly destroying the planet. But you don't care, because all that matters is riding around in your EV with your mask on.

The Fisker Karma has a 260 turbo gasoline engine which drives a generator to run the electric motors. It's basically the same principle. There is a battery but it's rather useless with only a 35 mile range.
A popular conversion is to replace the drivetrain with a big ass V-8.

Wow! You are so ignorant.
A chevy volt runs on gasoline. It only runs on electric for the firat 60 to 70 miles.
All of your questions totally prove that you are one seriously stupid mother-fucker.

This post really proves how stupid conservatives are. This poster is so god damn stupid it does not even know that a Chevy volt runs on gasoline. The poster even invents fake scenarios in its head. This is a classic example of pure ignorance.

it's a disposable car.
had you ordered one direct through alibaba.com from china the cost would be so low you wouldn't be asking about what the battery would cost - since you'd know it is disposable
china has piles of the cars that look rather new because they don't repair them - going to recycling.
IT'S IN THE AMERICAN MARKET, after biden inflation, your wondering how to rescue the car by changing the "non-replaceable battery"
because you paid too much
(it's like replacing the battery in a Samsung A13. pointless?)
