It's quite possible that Palin's endorsements and the Tea Party movement will cost the Republicans control of the Senate...and maybe even the House.

If the Republicans fail to gain a majority in either house, it will be an indictment of what the party supposedly stands for (it stands for nothing, in my opinion).

Jerry Brown will lose handily. He is such a loon, that the 15% of undecided voters will likely NOT break for him. As far as Reid goes - woohoo, so one week out of the last few he shows ahead on some polling - he will still lose. Boxer probably has the best chance out of all of them, and that is fine - although if they end up with a huge turnout to vote and Brown end's up losing, there is a good chance she will be in a tough fight.

If you think Reid is going to lose you haven't been paying much attention to Sharon Angle.

As for Brown, the guy already won statewide office last time around. He has done a lot to rehab his image in Oakland and now as State Attorney General. And most CEOs make clueless politicians. I haven't been following Whitman's campaign, but the fact that she is behind Brown says a lot.

It also says a lot that they are pretty much tied in the polls when Whitman has spent $99M to Brown's 450k.

The fact that she has to spend $91 million of her own money is an indication that she has little support from the Republican establishment in the state. People like to bitch about money in campaigns, but the fact is the fundraising forces a candidate to engage with constituents at the community level. If a candidate writes his or her own checks, that means less time is spent engaging the party base and fostering ownership of the campaign.

You mean stuff like this?

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/plum-line/2010/08/sharron_angle_obama_and_reid_a.html

Nevada journalist Jon Ralston unearths an interview that Sharron Angle did with Christian radio that is perhaps her most eyebrow-raising contribution to the conversation yet. In it, she says that government expansion under Obama and Dems is an effort to make government into our "God."

In case you're tempted to dismiss this as a figure of speech, Angle makes it clear that she's being literal, adding that our dependence on government is "idolatry" and that this is a "violation of the First Commandment." Here's the key bit:

"And these programs that you mentioned -- that Obama has going with Reid and Pelosi pushing them forward -- are all entitlement programs built to make government our God. And that's really what's happening in this country is a violation of the First Commandment. We have become a country entrenched in idolatry, and that idolatry is the dependency upon our government. We're supposed to depend upon God for our protection and our provision and for our daily bread, not for our government."

As Ralston puts it: "This mindset will further reinforce to some that religion infuses everything Angle believes but also might explain her hostility to government programs, believing essentially they are produced by a false God."

And, indeed, Angle also explains her zeal for politics as follows:

"And I knew that all along when I started praying over a year ago over it. And this just seemed to be the battle that I needed to go to war with. And I need warriors to stand beside me. You know, this is a war of ideology, a war of thoughts and of faith. And we need people to really stand for faith and trust, not hope and change."...

Pretty sad reporting for WAPO, but then what else is new.

GOVERNMENT RELIGION IN THE UNITED STATES
http://www.newswithviews.com/Erica/Carle5.htm

You can see how this works here:

Religion in the Soviet Union
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_the_Soviet_Union

The Soviet Union was the first state to have as an ideological objective the elimination of religion[1] and its replacement with atheism as a fundamental ideological goal of the state[2][3]. Toward that end, the communist regime confiscated church property, ridiculed religion, harassed believers, and propagated atheism in the schools.[4]

State atheism in the Soviet Union was known as "gosateizm,[5] and was based on the ideology of Marxism-Leninism. As the founder of the Soviet state V. I. Lenin put it:

Religion is the opium of the people: this saying of Marx is the cornerstone of the entire ideology of Marxism about religion. All modern religions and churches, all and of every kind of religious organizations are always considered by Marxism as the organs of bourgeois reaction, used for the protection of the exploitation and the stupefaction of the working class.[6]

Or maybe this will make it clearer:

Relevance of religion to world issues - Secretary Shultz's remarks before the Conference on Religious Liberty - transcript
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1079/is_v85/ai_3835055/

In the totalitarian societies of the modern world we see that religion is always among the first targets of repression. Traditional dictatorships have often assaulted the church when they felt threatened by its participation in challenges to their authority. This is hardly excusable, but it is also not systematic. But in totalitarian societies, the notion that a man or a woman can have a greater loyalty to God than to the state is anathema. At the core of communist ideology is the idea that the rulers must arrogate to themselves the attributes of omnipotence and omniscience that religious believers ascribe to God alone. The utopia that all the major religions reserve for the next life was to be made here on Earth.

Sounds kind of familiar - Obamasiah anyone?

And of course, she was being interviewed on a Christian radio station, of course she would couch her remarks in terms of religion. I seem to remember Hillary making all sorts of interesting claims about her time in a war zone... At least this woman Angle is not a patent liar.

Communism calls for making government the replacement for religion. I don't see how that is 'malarkey' in the current context. The more dependent you become on government to solve all your ills, the more like a religion it becomes.

I understand that - but the idea is that religion can supercede the government in the minds of believers. So they will act in accordance to their religion BEFORE they would act in accordance to their government. The thought is that people begin to believe that government has an answer for everything.

It's just scare tactics. Religious nuts, fundamentalists, etc. will see it as attack on Christianity and retaliate by voting Republican. You basically devalue the Democrats to amoral heathens that want evil universal health that makes people slaves to the government.

Anyone here truly believe Nancy Pelosi is a devout Catholic? She says she is.

Again, it just goes to the argument of Marx - that you must ridicule and devalue religion so that government is where the people turn for their answers. Just because you all don't want to acknowledge the truth of the comparison doesn't make it invalid. She just couched it in religious terms as she was giving an interview on a Christian Radio station.

I am just paraphrasing what Marx said. Read the wiki for the Soviet Union above and you will see that was their practice. Seems we are seeing a lot of that in the US today.

Stalin was blowing up churches. You don't see our government blowing up churches. It's one thing for the tea baggers to make an inane argument like this. It's another thing for you to agree with it.

This is exactly what the Religious Right wants the American public to believe. They want a comparison between the current administration and the Soviet Union. They want people to put Obama and his staff in the same light as Marx.

If you think a nonsense candidate like Angle being only 2.2% down to the most powerful person in the Senate is "grisly" you're fucking insane. Reid should be mopping the floor with her and can't even get outside the margin of error. Same for Boxer. If you think these polls mean good news for the Dems, it shows how out of touch with reality you are.

Plus, even the most aggressive prognosticators give little chance of the GOP taking over the Senate. It is rarely discussed as a serious possibility.

Capt. Obvious-

The party in power typically loses seats in the mid-terms. And, given the unemployment rate and overall dissatisfaction with Washington, the incumbent party should be losing its shirt. And, in those instances when the Republicans are offering REAL candidates and not Tea Party nutcases, they are.

Given this year's election, the Tea Party is the greatest gift the GOP could have given to the Democrats. I hope Harry Reid and company thank Sarah Palin when this is done, because she's been the biggest contributor to their re-elections.

Harry Reid might be looking for a job when this is all said and done. Pretty sad when your own son won't even campaign along side you. Boxer is/was likely to win with or without Palin's involvement. I see what you are trying to imply, but there simply isn't any "there" there.

Just watch, Capt. Obvious. If you look at the polls for the Senate, a lot of seats Republicans should be vying for are becoming "toss ups." The fact is that as disgruntled as the public may be with the Dems, the Republicans are offering NO alternatives. The GOP is the party of "No." The American people realize it.

And seats that should not even be mentioned are being placed in the toss up column for the Dems. Russ Feingold should NOT be in a contested race against a nobody. Same goes for Patty Murray.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2010/senate/2010_elections_senate_map.html

Look in the toss up column. How many (R)'s do you see? How many (D)'s?

You want to see something more compelling?

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2010/house/2010_elections_house_map.html

Look at that sea of blue in the toss up and leans GOP. Haw many red seats do you see on the other side of that coin? You can count them on one hand.

As for the party of "No," when you are shut out of the process it is difficult to run on accomplishments. Ask the Dems. They had no real substance in '06 other than "Bush Sucks." While they may have been correct and successful in that approach, you have to admit it lacked any real substance. Plus, there are voices out there offering alternatives, you just choose to ignore them.

More on Angle...

Angle: Democrats want to 'make government our God'
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20100805/D9HD13H00.html
...Angle's campaign pointed out that Reid, too, has spoken about the relationship between politics and his Mormon religion. In a speech at Brigham Young University in 2007, he said, "My faith and political beliefs are deeply intertwined. I am a Democrat because I am a Mormon, not in spite of it."

Angle spokesman Jarrod Agen said in a statement that "people are frustrated because, like Sharron, they understand Washington has become a giant, unseen, omnipotent force whose presence is felt in all our lives whether we like it or not."

Angle, a Southern Baptist, has called herself a faith-based politician and prays daily. Among her positions, she opposes abortion in all circumstances, including rape and incest.

In the Trunews interview, she talked widely and with candor unusual for a politician about her religious views and how they relate to her life as a politician.

"In this political walk that I'm walking - and I think it is a calling that God has on my life - I have watched Him walk with me through politics and help me to see the pitfalls of the political machinery, the seduction of the party and even those outside the party, the lobbyists, all of that," Angle told the network.

"The Lord shows me daily where he wants me to walk," she said.

Asked why she would enter a race to challenge the most powerful Democrat in the Senate, Angle said, "We're at war in this country, for our freedom, our culture, for our liberty, our Constitution."

Angle, who has called for dissolving some federal agencies and shifting their powers to states, including the Department of Education, warned of growing dependency on Washington.

"We know that once we have a majority that are dependent upon the government, we will lose our freedom," Angle said. "That's the next stage. Our Founders warned against this."

"I know people are very frightened about what's going on in this country," she added.

The campaigns have previously tangled over statements Angle made on the separation of church and state.

In a June interview on Nevada's KVBC's news interview program "Face to Face with Jon Ralston," Angle was asked about minutes from a 1995 legislative hearing in which she reportedly said the doctrine of church-state separation is unconstitutional. Asked on the program if the separation of church and state arises out of the Constitution, Angle answered "no." She said Thomas Jefferson is often misquoted and that he wanted to protect churches from being taken over by a state religion. The drafters of the Constitution "didn't mean that we couldn't bring our values to the political forum," she said.

Reid's campaign said Angle's remarks showed she believed church-state separation is unconstitutional. Angle's campaign said Reid was "figuring out ways to twist a larger historical statement Angle was making about the origins of separation of church and state."

Meanwhile, Angle released a new TV ad faulting Reid for the state's troubled economy. Nevada leads the nation in unemployment, foreclosures and bankruptcies.

The ad points out property values have plummeted on Reid's watch. "The only thing he's delivered for Nevada is hardship," a narrator says.

All I see here is Reid making foolish statements to try and discredit someone he is obviously losing to in the larger picture. She at least has a belief system that means something - Reid just believes in his 'right' to retain a place in DC politics. And it is apparent from his campaign responses that being truthful is not high on his belief system. So that is what folks want, an outright liar to work for them in Congress? This is the same guy who said the new Visitor's Center at Congress was good because it helped eliminate the stink of the public.

"My staff tells me not to say this, but I'm going to say it anyway," said Reid in his remarks. "In the summer because of the heat and high humidity, you could literally smell the tourists coming into the Capitol. It may be descriptive but it's true."

What an idiot.

Sarah Palin Tweets;

"Dr.Laura:don't retreat...reload! (Steps aside bc her 1st Amend.rights ceased 2exist thx 2activists trying 2silence"isn't American,not fair")"

That was quickly followed by:

"Dr.Laura=even more powerful & effective w/out the shackles, so watch out Constitutional obstructionists. And b thankful 4 her voice,America!"

Joan Walsh of Salon responds;

It's scary to think we just had a vice presidential nominee who doesn't understand the Constitution, who thinks Schlessinger's First Amendment rights "ceased 2exist" because she was criticized for haranguing a black woman who called for advice, using the word "nigger" 11 times. Again, Gov. Palin, the First Amendment protects us from government infringing on our speech rights; it doesn't take away other Americans' right to criticize.

That does sound like an "Evening of Hope"!

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An upcoming Sarah Palin event is being moved to a smaller venue because of slow ticket sales.

The "Evening of Hope with Sarah Palin," scheduled for next Thursday in Jacksonville, has been moved from the 2,936-seat Moran Theatre to the 609-seat Terry Theatre.

Mark Nelson, Florida director for Heroic Media, said the event was moved because not enough tickets have been sold and organizers would rather have a packed theater.

The event is a fundraiser for Heroic Media, a faith-based nonprofit group aimed at reducing abortions.

Tickets range from $50 to $100.

What's scarier, is that she appears as a saint compared to the idiot who currently resides somewhere within 10,000 NM of the WH at any given moment.

Funny, Dr. Laura called the black lady on her hypocrisy.

Fuck the Liberal Media for yet again playing the race card and
demonstrating yet again, just how ni66erish THEY are.

Obviously Dr. Laura was FORCED to quit her job by her producers.
