Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
I loved my two sweet ferrets but they have since both died. They are buried under the azalea bush in our back yard. One was a rescue ferret from a ferret shelter that was grieving for her owner who gave her up. She was old when I got her but lived another three years with me. My son's ferret passed away last year from a stomach tumor. Those two ferrets made me laugh each day and I loved them very much. I still have some of their favorite squeak toys like the sharks from Ocean City and the rubber hamburger they used to hide.
Unfortunately, my husband was not fond of them. By the way, they are not rodents. They are mustelids which are members of the weasel family. If I were to get another ferret, my husband would leave me!!!
I have heard way too many times about people getting a ferret and then trying to give it away. They are pets that need a lot of attention and they also need proper care and diet. Medical care for a ferret is not cheap. I traveled down to Lake Ridge in Prince William county to take my ferrets to Dr. Kawasaki at Old Bridge Animal Hospital. He is a well known ferret specialist. However, for emergency treatment, I had to go to Pender and it was very costly as few vets want to deal with exotics.
My advice to you would be to contact a shelter for ferrets or continue to find a good and loving home for your little guy. Please be responsible and find a home that will take good care of him. Remember a pet is for life!

I thinking he lived over by Fairfax Circle off Jermantown Rd, but I have to admit those years are a little hazy.
Ferreta are really smart. They can do all kinds of tricks. I never got mine to walk on a leash though. he would always wiggle out of it. I wanted to walk him like Jennifer Aniston did Rodolpho in Along Came Polly. Instead I just carried him around. Kids loved him. I took him to school with me a few times.
