Anyone Else On Here Decide High School Was Lame AF And To Go Get Your GED?

I realize that it's looked down upon to get a GED, but when public schools have more and more children drop out, for various reasons, it makes sense to get a GED to show that you at least care about your future.

I pushed through and graduated but it doesn't even matter. People with college degrees are making less than some who don't have a degree.

I dropped out of high school and never went back.

I don't need liberal democratic degrees!

Public school was so easy. I didn't drop out, I tested out. Finished in 3 years, should've been 2. Went to welding school and make between $150 to $300k a year.

Many folks got a GED and went on to Ivy League colleges. Some people are late bloomers, for some reason their intelligence doesn't fully kick it till they are older. Like some have growth spurts.

Nowadays, the demand for welders is surging day by day. So it would be really beneficial to go to welding school afterhigh school. In terms of welding education, a high school certificate or GED, as well as on-the-job training, is normally required. It's crucial to remember that depending on the type of training a welder takes, being a welder can take anywhere from a few months to a few years.

the rub is Vocational Schools require a higher level of student. Vocational Schools require an admissions test. Always did. You have to have something on the ball even before you apply.

and I'm in my 50's. My wife pushed for me to do it. I've always just said that I was a high school graduate. I don't think any employer, besides the Government or high security clearance positions, ever really check. Maybe standard employers do if you put down that you went to or graduated college, not sure.

A GED tells an employer you were a dropout who didn’t care or wasn’t motivated to handle the high-school workload, or just didn’t have the aptitude to learn. Huge red flags for hiring managers.

There’s a reason why companies are filled with college degrees and not GEDs. They’re not going to waste time weeding through a hundred GED candidates to find that one rare case where there was a budding genius who felt like 11th grade was holding him back.

This.

We don't give a damn about the educational value of the high school diploma. We put it on our job application as a character question. GED quite often signals disciplinary problems, chronic absenteeism or a juvenile record.

Our interview process far outweighs anything anyone ever writes on their resume or application. I don't care if you never went to school, at all, if you can carry yourself well and are able to articulate and demonstrate you can handle the job you are being interviewed for.

While college degrees show an investment, they can be confused as performance. A person's true measure of performance is their ongoing ability to face challenges and come up with new solutions. Their ability to think on their own, support one another and to perform actions that benefit our group are what we are after.

Our company (I'm part owner / operator) has been hiring people, by their character, for over 37 years. We respect and treat everyone equally. Our warehouse workers, to the cleaning staff, to the upper management, we are all equals as far as character is concerned. We all pull the rope in the same direction.

I, personally, never have nor will I ever ask anyone about their education. That is a personal choice that is none of my business.

Welding is a great career. You're going to make way more money than just about any degree will bring you and you won't go into debt either. A few months of school and they'll put you on a pipeline making $75 an hour at 18

lmao, “personal choice”. You trumptrolls are hilarious.

Asserting that GED’s are a good goal to set, one that will open more doors for you compared to a degree, that is hysterical.

Face it, you’re just trying to make yourselves feel better about dumb decisions you made when you were younger.

I'm guessing that you have multiple worthless degrees! Worse yet you prolly only have one worthless degree!

I wouldn't say high school was that bad. There were some good moments. I was able to improve my writing skills, which came in handy later on. Now in college we have a huge number of essays. To write some of them I use https://writinguniverse.com/free-essay-examples/hr-management/ as an example. Some topics I do not understand, so I look at examples. And this way it is easier for me to understand what is better to write.

If a degree is worthless, then how is having a lesser number of them worse? If I have fewer worthless things, isn’t that better?

Either way you slice it, if the degree is in something worthless, it's a worthless degree. Outdoor Recreation is one degree field that comes to mind. WTF is that!?

I've got my doubts about anyone's claims to success when they talk about "worthless degrees" while also talking about education as a "personal choice". We live in a world where Art History majors know computers. A degree is only worthless if you cannot figure out how to leverage it to advance your career.
