I had met "Meat" several times. He had a tough Rock and Roll career.
Did you know a follow up to Bat out of Hell was held for years and and years, and never released, over royalty issues?
That never released album had new songs including, Total Eclipse of the Heart, and The Heart of Rock and Roll, which were later released by other artists.
His Liracist, Jimmy Steinman passed away last year. I can remember a press conference Meat gave where Jim was supposed be be in attendence. Meat stated Jim had pneumonia, and was resting at the Savoy Hotel in London. "If you are recovering, the Savoy with room service is a great place to do it," Meat said to the press.
Local connection
When NBC's Friday Night Videos ran the extended Bat out of Hell video, there was a problem with the speed, and the audio came out warped. Meat was in a hotel in Georgetown watching it at the time of airing. He became so outraged he blanked out, and left the hotel room. His next recollection was waking up on a park bench (the story varies here), in Toronto, three days later, (three days and Toronto are not in question).
Heaven Can Wait
Steinman (as sung by Meatloaf).
And I know that I've been released
But I don't know to where
Nobody's gonna tell me now
And I don't really care, no, no, no
I've got a taste of paradise
It's all I really need to make me stay
I got a taste of paradise
If I had it any sooner you know
You know I never would have run away from my home
You are no longer a Lost Boy.
