Meals on Wheels- how good can it be?

THE DEMOCRAT HOUSING CRISIS

Xidentards, how is it the "USA" is under control by DEMOCRITS and we still have people getting free food delivery, living under bridges, and live in card board boxes? I thought Xiden was going to fix all this? But humanity is still in the "dark ages" even with all this technology? Well how about the Romans who had indoor plumbing 5,000 years ago and the Mayan calendar was the most accrete way of telling time, the moon's escalopes, and seasonal events, and that was way more than 6,000 years. But you continue to believ in the Covid lies being fed to you while the "real" problem is ignored.

Wasn’t it Trump who came up with the idea to send people boxes of food (like Hello Fresh/Blue Apron)? He called it “America’s Harvest Box”. Tell us how that panned out. And if he was so concerned about the homelessness then why did he appoint a ‘homelessness czar’ who advocated bans on feeding homeless people? Like literally making it a crime to give food to them?

It's so cool to just totally make shit up. Next time just say Trump had his people kill all the homeless. Sounds meaner and is just as true.

Trump’s homelessness czar was Robert Marbut. He routinely explained his stance on banning food for the homeless, saying it provided a bad incentive and exacerbated the problem. Like literally said this more then once in public. Explain how that’s “making shit up”. We shouldn’t believe someone Trump hired?

Many homeless people are just jerks, plain and simple.

But many of them are not. This includes the mentally ill. Many of the homeless have kids who are pretty innocent. They might grow up to be jerks but they aren't yet.

Meals on Wheels is a great program. Most of its funding is from private donations. It is volunteer supported. Seniors and shut-ins get healthy meals and are checked on daily. Senior malnutrition, which does exist, is greatly reduced by Meals on Wheels. WTF is wrong with you people.

OK, well OP is the nutcase who posts on here all the time.

Homeless people do not receive Meals On Wheels.

Meals On Wheels is church lady volunteers delivering low-quality meals to people's HOMEs. It's (mostly elderly) shut-ins. I don't think the government pays for it; the County/City typically just provide a part-time worker who does client registrar/volunteer coordination for the volunteers. There might be some partial payment for the food by the local (County/City) government; not sure. The food is assembled for delivery at a church. Some of it definitely just comes from the church.

Homeless people eat in church soup kitchens and at county-run walk-in lunch kitchens. Like the so-called "Consumer Service Center" at the social services building on LRT by the beltway in Annandale. The county pays a contractor to run it (managers, a van driver to pick up food and pick up homeless people). All of the food is donated from local restaurants. (Mostly high-end Tysons restaurants.) There are a number of these centers in Fairfax County. Besides the Annandale one, there are at least three mental-health oriented ones (by the hospital, up by Tysons, one in Springfield where the doors are locked from the outside...). And there's one on Route 1 na couple miles up from the shelter at Ft, Belvoir. Arlington has some, too.

Homeless shelters also provide meals for their residents, of course. This is also donated food, prepared by the staff. At some of them, on Sunday it will be instead a special meal donated, prepared, and served by church ladies. Those are the good meals.

In Fairfax City, homeless can get meals at the Lamb Center. Now there's a phrase we haven't heard here in a while!

If they think it’s such “low quality” well tough shit. Get a fucking job and pay for your own goddamn food. I can’t imagine the sense of entitlement they must have if they think Michelin 5 star meals should magically appear at their door, for free. Maybe Biden will be out promoting that idea too.

The typical client is an 80 year old blind woman who has a heart condition and things wrong with her legs so she can't walk. Living below the poverty line.

She cannot afford food, so a local church brings her what they can. The local government participates by providing a coordinator.

The quality of the meals is not very good, and not necessarily healthy,

Your response to this volunteer charity program and donated food is to complain that she is a lazy useless bitch.

How very Christian of you.

Today’s christians aren’t like Jesus. They’re like Donald Trump. Gone are the days of humility and virtue. Now it’s: “say something stupid”, and then, “say something else even stupider, and be hostile about it.”

Again, FFXU idiots don't know what they're talking about. If you'd ever seen or sampled Meals on Wheels food you'd know that it's fine, at least in the program I worked with. It's not gourmet, but it's not slop either. I never heard a complaint from any of the recipients about the quality of the food.

If you’re getting free food brought to your house and you think it’s not good enough, I got three words for ya: uber fuckin eats. Beggars can’t be choosers. No one is forcing you to accept those meals.

I’m guessing it’s a lot of stuff like sliced ham or turkey, bread, mashed potatoes, corn, and a container of tapioca pudding or jello. Bland inoffensive stuff that old people would eat. I’ve never seen one of those deliveries around here.

Nor should they be forcing them. I don’t care if it’s government, etc., people have the right to choose what meals they take, free or not. It shouldn’t be up to some ‘bureaucrat’ on what kind of food they are getting, and those who do not want it (free or not) should have the right to REFUSE it.

The little old lady in the apartment next door gets them, so I've seen them up close plenty of times. I receive them for her when she can't get to the door.

It's not nearly as good as, say, an FCPS lunch. The food is the lowest quality, chepest stuff, and looks and smells like it is on the verge of spoiled. There's not much there, but old sick people don't usually eat much anyway.

Each meal is actually two meals, and comes in plastic takeout containers like from a restaurant.

The "hot meal" is:
- Some beans (either black or kidney)
- boiled collard greens
- an entree, one of:
(a) pretty disgusing steamed
breaded fish stick (smells spoiled)
on white rice
(b) chicken soup (looks OK)
(c) minced chicken on white rice
(d) a stewed tomato
(e) watery mac'n cheese
(f) "Power Lunch", which means
there is actually no entree.
Just a tortilia: you're supposed
to put the rice and beans on it.

The "cold meal" is usually some sliced melons (already spoiling). Sometimes instead of the second scoop, there is a sandwich (assemble it yourself): a thin slice of nasty looking ham with a slice of american cheese food product stuck to it. Looks slimey. On occasion I have seen a scoop of egg salad instead, whch looked (anyway) good. Anyway, this meal comes with a stale piece of bread (e.g. a small hard hamburger bun, or a crumbling white bread bisket).

Additionally, there is usually a small salad, which would seem to be the best part. (Just lettuce with one or two cherry tomatoes. Not fancy like McDonalds salad but nothing wrong with it.) A packet of Ken's dressing.

There is a carton of milk (like when you were little), an apple juice, and one of two sugary fruit cups. On occasion I have seen a bannana going by.

The whole thing is 95% a huge load of bad carbs. (Plus that tiny salad.)

She has congestive heart failure and is diabetic: not supposed to eat those sugary ftuit cups, juice, or white rice. They do not have any options for people with restricted medical diets.

> I never heard a complaint
> from any of the recipients about the quality of
> the food.

She never complains.
(Well, not to me, and not that I've overheard on our stoop: she just says Thank You to the nice church ladies who bring it).

Meals On Wheels comes M-F around noon.

I never knew anybody else who got them, so maybe they were different where you lived.

I’ll never understand why people would order crap like that, it sounds like prison food. Much better options with DoorDash or Uber, stuff from Buffalo Wild Wings, PF Chang, Five Guys. Many good choices, not crap like beans and spoiled chicken.

I suppose because it is free, and they have no money and are elderly disabled people who have no ability to work. Blind crippled 80 year olds whose heart is too weak to walk up and down stairs or to the street corner without croaking right then and there. I mean, Fuck! Why they fuck would they accept charity food, even if it isn't great?

In other news, your trolling is now officially boring.
